ok so we just picked up a 1990 civic hatch dx for 250 for the old lady, was told it had a bad tranny, didn't start but was told it did, got it here got it started, tried putting it in gear for ****s and giggles, let off the clutch and what do you know it moves, every gear goes in and moves but when i drove it down the road, there sounded like a cluncking coming from the motor bay, from my understanding if you have a bad gear the tranny won't go at all correct? or what could it be that is making that noise it sound like its coming from the bellhouse area, i am hoping it is somthing simple cuz we stole this car for the price, body is perfect, one small dent on the driverside quarter, and one spot of rust the size of a pinhole on the drivers quarter other than that it is perfect, i love areas with no salt :D

but any ideas about the tranny clunking? is it possible that the tranny is bbad?> it pulled fine on the road

my tranny pretty much took a **** on me, but i was still able to put it in all the gears and drive it, but it finally just locked up on me going down the road, so it is possible. I would just replace it, i'm sure you can get one cheap.
will not go ino gear and now.. . . after you get it started it does???? I am betting on a clutch spring came loose and was jammed up in the pressureplate fingers seems to have worked its way out now. . . . but it will be banging around in there. . . . ., loose flywheel would cause noise. . . . . busted or mangled diff .. . Im going with the clutch spring though....

yank that mixer out of there and check the clutch stuff out. .

no it went into gear b4 it started, but ya it only makes the noise everyonce and a while while it is sitting, i took it around the block and it was only when i stepped on the gas
