People kill people. I'm just amazed he got to that many people before someone stopped him.

It is up to 32 now 29 wounded.
Ridiculous.

Why would someone do this? I give my condolences to the families of the victims.

What makes me more upset Is he shot up one dorm at 7:15 am, and walked 1/2 a mile 2 hours later, and shot up another dorm.It seems to me someone had heads up their BUTTS...
Theres no way it was just one guy... or he ad to have been using something good.

rediculous i agree but it was actually a dorm and then an engineering lecture building. I think this sort of thing is really messed up, and should never happen. With that said did anyone hear about how Jack Thompson got onto one of the newscasts and started blaming the shootings on video games? with his "Exclusive information"

(for those who dont know jack thompson is the number one person when it comes to blaming video games for things they didnt neccisarily cause)

I don't know how 1 person cut through 32 others without being stopped. I know with my team if someone shoots at us he might tag one of us, but that is it, after that he is no more.
How the hell did he get a chance to reload? Did everyone just sit back and get shot? WTH?
^^ Exactly my sentiment. If someone's going to shoot at me, I'm sure as hell not just going to sit there and wait for it.

Everybody was probably looking for cover. Most people dont know how to respond to an armed gunman.
Panic was probably keeping everybodys mind scrambled
What are you guys talking about?

Never mind I just went to CNN.com
One factor I read was the gunman may have chained the exit doors to prevent escape.

People run, gunman gets them in the back, some flee, get to the doors, are trapped, gunman gets more victims.

Sad and very obviously premeditated. I wonder what set him off, being college its usually relationship or group / class association gone wack in the killer's head.
One of the classrooms he shot up, kept him from comming back by blocking the door with thier shoes.
Pretty inventive, but when in panic something must click.
Now i hear we may never find out who it is. He shot up his face when he killed himdself. And didnt carry any id like a phone or a wallet
this guy had it planned out.
This has been labled as the worst on US soil in US history :jawdrop:

This is how it begins. Let's look for someone to blame.... the gun lobby?gun owners? school administrators? cops?

And, anyone interested in the video game connection should read Lt. Col. Dave Grossman's book On Killing.

In fairness, videogames do make a really effective training tool. Especially when you see the shocking amount of detail nowadays.

On the other hand, videogames don't make a maniac.
People kill people. We managed to do that when we were still dragging our knuckles and toting clubs around. We just got better at it.

I agree with you whole heartedly. Everyone in the media looks to point a finger. It is crazy, it is sad, but it is no one's fault but the person who pulled the trigger.
On the videogame twist, we (U.S. Army) actually use live action prerecorded video playback for training. THIS IS NOT FOR TARGET PRACTICE lol. It is used for situational awareness, we stand infront of a screen with our weapons and a computer records where we aim. It keeps you mindful of your actions, and shows you that most situations do not require force at all. 90% of the scenarios are completed with no aggressive force whatsoever. The other 10% are point of entry/checkpoint scenarios where we have to stop a vehicle or a bomb goes off and there are random people running every which way through smoke and such.
If anything video games keep us from shooting people.

Yeah buddy, I bet If it was your kid In college and He was In the other building, and did not get a warning of the other shooting 2 hours earlier, I guarantee If he was shot to death, You would be pointing fingers too. IT'S CALLED "Negligence" . It does exist, and people get sued for it..

The only ONE person to blame is the shooter,I agree, But certain factors and actions Of others could have saved more lives.. Do I know the REAL story?? NO.. I'm just going off of a students comment that was IN the other building, he stated "We had NO warning of the other shooting 1/2 mile away, 2 hours earlier"
We actually got a mass email at work to all company employees (120 k)

A Tragedy in Virginia

To Our Colleagues:

This morning a gunman opened fire in two separate buildings at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Va., killing a reported 32 individuals and injuring dozens more. News reports indicate that the shooter was also killed. Officials are calling this event the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history. Virginia Tech is near a number of Northrop Grumman facilities, and while we have no reports that children or relatives of our employees were among the victims, this kind of tragedy deeply affects us all. Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those who were killed or injured in this terrible incident.

So...someone, somewhere gets shot, and the whole city should be shut down? Seems more than a little bit impractical.

It's still unknown who the shooter is. How can you possibly predict where a random shooter is going in such a short timespan?

Uhhh what an SHALLOW COMMENT. Thats a far different analogy.
SO If your kid is in High school/middle school and The high school side gets SHOT UP, They should only shut down the high school side HUH??. PLEASE Don't ever get an administrative job at a school..
If there is a shooting in a school IT SHOULD ALL GET LOCKED DOWN AND INFORMED.

Either way You have to feel for the parents of those kids that died, And I'm sure under all that emotional drama the question that I suggested "was there negligence?" "would my child still be living If....?" will be asked by many devastated families

I know how they feel and all the questions that will be asked, My 8 month old daughter has a rare disorder which is fatal, I face this every day and ask questions every day.. Death is a hard subject especially when its your child..

Lets just not argue about Who is to blame, And just give silence for the innocent which have died..
Rabble rabble rabble ...

There's a huge difference between the size of a city and a college campus. Stop argueing apples and oranges. Shutting down a city is very impractical. However someone should have shut down the campus, or atleast tried to. 2 hours is a pretty big time frame to not do that. Perhaps tehy thought it was an isolated incident and since there was a long break in time after the first shooting, the situation was over and they began investigation mode.

Someone always gets the blame. Look at all the past events similar to this. Maybe it was the music the shooter listened to? Maybe the shooter was bullied, maybe the parents of the victims are to blame for not teaching thier children disaster preparedness? Ever consider the shooter was just a fscking nut case that decided he wanted to lash out and share his agony with the world? No preparedness could prevent the situation, only help when/if the situation took place.

There are tons of organizations a civilian can join, lots of time for free, to prepare with disaster management. If civilians taking no action bothers you, go take some courses to learn what to do in these types of situations so you can better handle it if it happens to you.

Unfortunately, this type of crap gives the anti-gun media more cannon fodder and the honest and legal gun owners suffer because of asshats that do stuff like this.
