I have never read anything about them being any different on an 88. You've changed one before, so you know exactly where it is? It's more hidden and tougher to get to than you might expect if you've never done it before. As far as I know, it's in the same spot as the rest of the 88-91s...but I've only changed them on '89s.

where is it at? its not by the hood release like the 89-91
Limber up and crawl a little farther under the dash ... it's up there, pretty far from the hood release actually if I remember right, the pic posted on this thread is good.

All 88-91 civic/CRX's are in the same place. Changed them all.

If you're doing some troubleshooting, don't codemn the main relay so quickly. Recently there was a thread on here where the guy went out and bought a main relay and an ECU to no avail. We later helped him trace the problem to a bad ground.

What's your problem exactly?

p.s. If your main relay is indeed bad, there's a way to ghettofy it so it'll continue working probably for years yet. Nope no soldering involved, just put an ignition only power source to the right yellow black wire.
