Sorry, not my area of expertise. The mechanic spoke of retro-fitting certain components in order replace air conditioning with upgraded (modern) parts. A bit of complexity due to difficulty in finding used parts.
That makes more sense, all you really need for the conversion are the high/low side port fittings. They literally just screw onto the OE fittings. You'll need the proper AC machine to pull a vacuum on the system to remove most of the original oil, I would also highly recommend replacing receiver drier. Some people will recommend replacing all the seals in the system since they may not be compatiable with R134A oil but I've never had an issue using the old seals if they're intact on any conversion I've done.

My ac needs a recharge and a reseal as well, but I am planning on readjusting the txv first.
