Hey everyone im new here and i wanna hear what everyone thinks of air intakes. IE. what brand is the best etc. I just got the AEM cold air where does it fit in the line of whats good and whats not?

its fine, but pretty much an intake is an intake. the stock aribox with the resonator mod and air filter works about as good.

the aem has good fit and finsh and looks nice though.
watch out for those puddles with the cold air

^^ What he said.

A DIY intake using the stock airbox, new filter and resonator removal mod will yield essentially the same results and costs less.

The AEM looks nicer & costs a lot more.

Get a bypass valve and cut up that expensive intake. Feel much more at ease...
The bypass valve is silly, you won't get water in there unless you submerge the filter anyway, which is rare.
<---hydrolocked the 2.5 RS because of a cold air....at stock height....on 18" wheels.

<----amlost hydrolcoked my first crx, bypass valve saved my ass (made its high pitched noise when it popped, the bypass was ruined, but i didnt break my z6.

im going to vouch for a replacement K&N stock filter in the stock airbox with everything else removed. you can even remove the lower part of the box and zip tie the filter onto the top.

heres the thing about the stock airbox. the outlet is 3" diameter already! its just the intake tube that is the restriction before the throttle body.

so here's what i did! 3" tin duct elbows and duct tape. yeah its ghetto, but it gets the job done. i also made my own catch can out of an old civic radiator reservoir. fits like stock!

ill just post the whole link, and the pics. should speak for itself.

in hindsight, i should have just cut the end off the intake tube at the throttle body side and wrap the ducting over that so the interface to the throttle body is more secure. plus it acts as the proper plenum to reduce the diameter of air better. i think it matters.

CFM doesnt flow through a air intake
well the k&n is 2ply filtration, and oil based/

the aem dry flow are higher quality and can be washed just like the other wash&re-oil filters. stock replacements can often give better results than intake kits but dont look as tidy.
jonny have you ever been to the raven truck accesories on the north side?
nope. still new to edmonton not had chance to get around all the good places yet.

Umm...wha?
CFM or cubic feet per minuteis a measurement of the velocity at which air flows into or out of a space.

But actually CFM DOES flow through an air intake. Its just not said that way. :?
