I am going to buy a an obd1 ecu with a "reburnable" chip. I am then going to have Neptune installed. I have been using Zdyne all this time and I'm unfamiliar with reflashable chips. My question is: are all reflashable chips the same? Meaning there will be no problem with installing Neptune and reflashing it with that? Just looking for a little insight into the whole chip burning thing. Also if anyone has any cool links that would be greeeat!

Not all chips are the same.
There's high quality and low quality...just like any chip or CPU.

I happen to have an extraordinarily expensive one in mine. But it's real-time updatable. (not that I've actually used it)

But generally speaking, they are similar enough not to give you any problems. Run off the mill chips are cheap anyway, so get a couple so you can play around with the settings.

Yeah, Im learning more by the minute. Hey Synoptic how'd ya know Jeff was tuning the car!

Here is what Jeff said:

Any socketed ecu is compatiable with neptune. If you have a vtec engine, you need to use a p28/p30/p72/p08 ecu. You can use a P74/P75/P06 if the ecu has the vtec circuit added.

If you dont have a vtec head on the engine, you can use a p74/p75/p06 ecu.

The Atmel 29c256 chips are reusable and are what i use to tune with. They are reburnable, but cost more than your UV erase chips and one time burn only chips.

Do you have that Atmel chip in your car Bas?

Well let me tell you about my experience yesterday. I'm on my way back from my tuners house when my CEL Light comes on and off very rapidly and the cars hurking and jurking and dies. So i drift it off the interstate a mile down the road and it turns out the chip went bad in the ecu while driving! My tuner sent someone out with a chip and boom it works. So never let anyone tell you chips dont go bad

They are only a measly $7.00 at Moates so not a bad idea.
