Is their a way to convert electronic to cable with y-1 tranny? Also does the speed sonser have to be hooked up to ecu for the v-tec to work? Or is their any other optins?

Is the hole in a Y-1 a different size or something? I thought you could just swap out the sensor/gear assembly for a cable version.
The ECU won't care whether the signal comes from a tranny-mounted or a speedo-mounted VSS, so you could install a gauge cluster with an electronic speedo if you like. The '96-00 Civic clusters apparently can be made to fit.

just swap out your electric vss for a cable driven one from a civic or integra. and yes vtec wont engage if there is no vss signal. I think there is a 20mph or so minimum speep for vtec.

Speed sensor off the d motor did not look the same. I actually did not pull it out to compare. Y-1 cable sensor will work? Thanks for the replies.

the d one is not the same. if you swap out the gear inside it will work, but the cable wont clip in all the way. you need one from a cable one off a second gen integra will work.
