Found this a while back:
A1 - pretty long gearing
Y1 - kinda tall
S1 - real short and fast
J1 - really short
YS1 - Gas Getter, good gearing

Now it depends on condition of transmission. So its 675 installed plus your old A1?

Terrible info. A Y1 is closer to the YS1 then the J1.

These are the specs on the shorter gear B series tranny (all years make and model, note the Y1 is relatively close to the S80). Final drives also make a huge difference in how the tranny gearing is.

So you want to swap your LS (isn't the LS a non vtec B18?) for a B16 tranny?

Since you're asking for our input, I'll have to pose a series of questions before I can give my opinion.

Why swap?
Is there something wrong with your current transmission?
What benefit is there to this swap?
What are you trying to gain, and is it worth $675?

Anyone who has swapped a B series can answer these.

Why? Better gearing, gives you faster acceleration but crappy mileage and high revving on the highway. Good for torqueless B16s.

Wrong with tranny? It's all personal opinion. I think my tranny is fine but other find that it's too hard to shift due to 16 year old syncros.

Benefits? Better gearing, makes the car accelerate faster, which is a bonus for us 1/4 mile guys.

Worth the money? Only if the tranny is in good shape or has an LSD in it. I paid 500$ for a YS1 with LSD.

It was a private sale. The guy had bought a B16 package but received it with a cable tranny and he had an EG. So he sold the tranny to me. It litterally hapened in the manner of hours. I saw his ad, I said I was interested. I drove to toronto to get popeyes chicken and he called me while I was there, and I bought it before I came back.

i'd say your absolutely getting ripped off, i recently bought a jdm S1 b16 tranny with no issues or grinds for $250 and i did'nt do any haggling, thats all he was asking for it, i usually see them going for about $200 with a bad synchro or two, $300-400 in minty shape, so i did get a good deal, but you my friend are getting ripped, i mean raped
