black hat/white hat forum?

So like I'm still new here, but we've had three iffy sellers in the last few months. I'm thinking it might be a good idea to set up a forum under the forsale fora that's devoted to seller reputation (I'm thinking about a forum since I think it will not get a lot of traffic--if it's a seperate forum, the entries won't get washed out of sight like they will in an active forum).

The purpose would be to list any sellers or buyers who are particular good or bad. Entries would have to be calm and straight forward, just listing the facts of the matter (no bashing). Obviously, the other party could also post, but again, no bashing or arguing. Posts that fall into that kind of language would be deleted.

The goal would be to establish a mechansim for community assessment of buyers and sellers, similar in some ways to the rating system on ebay, but more informal, so that if a member has a significant problem with a buyer or seller, others would have a head's up. It would also be a way for buyers and sellers to vouch for folks who are particularly good to deal with.

I think it could work ok, given that this community is pretty level headed and self regulating, and might have some value. But you all who have been around longer will have a better idea if it's workable or even desirable (it's just an idea, and ideas are cheap, it's the work that's hard :) )

A similar idea has been tossed around here before.

As more and more new members join up, something like this should be considered and may be a good idea.
I of course support this idea!

One of the mods could easily make a sticky in the for sale section.

I think there should be two sticky threads, one for good experiences, one for bad seeds.

Do it! Do it! :p
The admins are looking at upgrading the forum soon with a trader rating.

In the meantime, I can setup a "blacklist sellers" sticky in the for sale forum. Look for it soon and post your bad experiences there.
Cool. Vote jfro for mod of the month! :D
In relation to this and to the thread about user titles... some forums I've been on have a rating system for users in general, like points. When someone helps you out you give them "karma" or "respect" or whatever, and it slowly adds up in their avatar (below it). Some have this for trader ratings and for user ratings.

I've seen this before on other sites..
I think the one I notice is "Rep" rating.
Sad to say,but its inevitable that some bad apples will pop up as we grow.
It's just our duty to each other to protect ourselves from these bad sellers, and buyers for that fact!
I think Tom and Jas are working on a update for the community as we speak from what I've heard.

I like that idea, especially a karma rating. Lord knows I can use all the good karma I can get, I feel like I'm paying off this life for prior ones....(;

I like BOTH of those ideas and i think they could help the community out and weed out the deadbeats.
The idea of trader ratings is good in my mind, but I despise the "karma" thing with a passion. One the forums ive been on its always the people who posts the most, or is liked by the general public. If anyone says anything the least bit offensive to one person they think they should push that little bad karma button and if that happens enough they get the big bad negative sign next to their name...even if they are really a good guy.

Trader rating is good because you're actually in a transaction and business deal with that person that involves money or something of value. The karma thing is solely based on what other think about you, it has nothing to do with quality of posts.

Interesting. I'd not thought about a negative karma button, never crossed my mind that anyone would assign negative karma. There's something fundamentally wrong with that.

Its not literally a "karma" thing its more of a "did you contribute" but the forum addition the button would be named karma. Yet like I said before people would abuse it because someone would think "well thats not very constructive in my opinion lets click the negative".
