Ok guys and gals.. I just want to know if I understand this thing..

from what I take form it.. and I havent read much, or seen much of the news lately to understand it.. but, from what i gather.. this new immigration bill would give the 11million illegal immigrants 6 years to become legal.. in a nutshell.. is that right?

11 million illegals, would have to register, then have 6 years to do whatever to become a united states citizen. is that right? or is that not it at all?

if that is right, then my next question is... why would you protest that?

they are getting a 6 year pass... in my opinion.. 6 years to become a us citizen.. is it that they dont want to become a us resident? they just want to come here, milk the tit, and then head back to mexico? I dont understand. I want to understand this issue..

any here that knows whats up care to school me?

later

I haven't read the bill and know absolutely nothing about it but I can say this...It will not stop anybody from crossing the boarder. In fact, chances are it will increase paper work cost, create useless government jobs, cost you and me more money, and more illegals will come over.

The way I see it...it's better to be an illegal. I want to figure out how to go from being legal to being illegal.

The funny thing is... I bet there are several politicians that are patting themselves on the back thining they just saved the nation.

Before any "immigration bill" is passed, we need to get mexico to adopt the same immigration bill. Right now, if youre caught illegally in their country, you get thrown in jail, youre then sent to the border from where you came, and you pay the bill. But ironically, Mexicos president is pushing for us to approve OUR immigration legislation....

I agree. There is no short term, nor a long term resolution for this. My thoughts are, and only if the government wants to get serious about this, is to shoot anyone coming across the border illegally. I can guarantee that if "Nacho" sees his buddies getting shot to death, then he'll think twice about entering illegally. Within months, rumors will pass among the communities about the dangers of crossing illegally.

I think Arizona seems to have the right idea so far, build a big wall and use captured illegals for labor to build it.

I think if your not Native American or some one in your family was then you or some one in your family was once an immigrant just like these people. They came here for a better life just like some one in your family. Just stop and think where you would be if the US had thrown your ancestors back where they came from. As for me part of my ancestors were already here and the other half were brought here in chains!

Last semester I took a class on contemporary polictics, and we actually had a debate about this, which I was in. The US has a tradition since the 80's of granting amnesty to large and small groups every few years. I think the first big one was the Immigration Reform and Control Act in 1986 (not sure exactly though). Basically, every time, this kind of proposal comes up, granting amnesty to current aliens and putting more money towards the borders. Obviously this isn't working. One of the reasons we don't deport so many people is because it's very expensive for the government. Also, employers will knowingly hire illegals because they aren't documented, and laws concerning health care and minimum wage don't apply. A good way to cut down on illegal immigrants would be to penalize companies more harshly, if there was no work to be had, nobody would be coming to take it. Also, a lot of immigrants come legitimately on visas, but never leave. It's nearly impossible to track them this way.
Personally I don't have a problem with this bill, it's happened before, and I don't think it solves anything, but it certainly makes the lives of some people a lot better.
