ok, so here's my situation...

there's a site that "specializes" in CF sunroof plugs. it's supposed to take 1-2 weeks to ship according to their site, and since paypal is their only method of payment, they HAVE to ship within 20 days of payment (a paypal policy).

everything seemed legit at the time and i needed a sunroof fast so i place an order for one. my very first online purchase .

three weeks go by and i start to feel concerned... i e-mailed the owner of the site to get the status of my order. no reply. i e-mail him again after a couple of days and still no reply! for my last attempt, i threaten to file a dispute with paypal if im dont get answers about my order.

he finally replies, saying there is a carbon fiber shortage and that he hasnt even made my damn sunroof yet. at the time i received his reply, it was already one month since i payed for my order. he tells me he'll get it done and ready to ship in a week.

the "week" he speaks of is coming to an end and i am still without a sunroof.

is anyone else experiencing a huge delay when ordering carbon fiber parts, or is this guy just using the "shortage" as a reason to screw me over? im getting frustrated with every day that passes. im getting tempted to tell you guys the name of the site so you never order from them... but i guess i'll wait till the week is over.

He can always resolve it on his end by shipping the item.

well.. threat of shortage has loomed over the market for nearly 7-8 years. The material has become severly over utilized. it suprises me that hes claiming shortage on his supply because the primary effect has been on the "really strong stuff" ,12k is what I think its refered to as, which is rests primarily in the hands of boeing, lockheed, and airbus.. this guy has probably had a shortage from his supplier, but I dont know about a months worth of shortage.

I personally haven't, but I have a friend who has and he can't give them enough praise. It's important to support these smaller companies who are doing custom fab stuff for our cars.

rsca_crx is a friend of mine, send him a pm if you want to know about dealing with them, but I've only heard good things.
Remember we have a few custom fabbers here, these guys are just normal enthusiasts like the rest of us, they aren't trying to screw anyone over. I had a similar problem with lightning motorsports a while ago, they weren't getting their stock from B&M. Got on the phone and it was straightened out in 5 minutes.

Actually, I was looking at Carbon fiber as a building material for beam reinforcement in my garage. The guy I talked to said it was very hard for him to get anything, that he was backordered for almost everything.

Yup, B&M wasn't shipping out their stuff to lightningmotorsports. I have nothing but praise for that site. Cheapest around, but shipping is a tad high. I eventually got my fuel guage. I just sent an email asking about the order and they replied quickly with a good answer.

The CF i'm using was fought for hardcore... yes, there definitely is a shortage, but it is still out there if the guy is smart enough to know where to buy from.

ender_ : BTW, that 'lighterfaster.com' place is who i initially thought you were dealing with... he's the only one that "specializes" in CF sunroof plugs that i know of. I think his username on H-T is crx12 or something like that. Where did you order your initial sunroof from? Posting a sad story about a vender screwing you is only useful for others if you inform us about who it is.
