Recently I've been driving my CRX a lot more, with an average of 30 minute commute one way to work, and frequent hour long trips between my parents. As most people know I've been planning on the H22 swap this spring, but lately, I've been loving my D16.
I've talked to a few people, and I think I'm going to put it off until the end of the summer, and I'll probably get another CRX to put it in. The one I have is very clean, especially for the Northeast, and has low miles. The H22 is a somewhat permanent swap, meaning I can't just go back to my D if I don't like it. Also I'm worried about how it will autocross, not as much the weight issue but that it will put me in E Mod, where I have no chance of competing. I'll also be out of school and working then, and have some more cash to do it the way I want. If I do it now, I don't think I'll be able to afford the cams, clutch/flywheel and other stuff I want to do it right. Not giving up on the H... just putting it off for a little while.
So I'm getting back into my NA D build. I sold my pistons (PM7), so they aren't going back in obviously. I have an extra Y8 head at the moment I planned to port, so when I get back to school I'm going to go ahead and port it, rebuild it and have it milled. I'm going with Crower springs and retainers, and I'm still looking into getting some different valves (don't know if I need them...).
For less than what I planned on the H22 swap, I can add some stuff to the D and make a pretty killer setup (for a SOHC anyway
) and still have some room to get stuff I need/want for the rest of the car. So I'll be posting here with the progress and the plans.
Current setup:
A6 block, recently rebuilt with ACL bearings, JE rings, ARP rod bolts
Y8 head, stock
Crower stage 2 NA cam
Z6 intake manifold
AEM EM1 CAI
DC 4-2-1 header, custom 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust
Immediate plans:
Crower valve springs and retainers
port and polish
mill head 0.060"
rebuild head with OE seals
And I'm looking for more suggestions. Can anyone tell me why I would need to replace the valves, aside from using flat-faced ones to increase compression?
