Chassis code question

Hey guys, I know I should know this. And I'm sure you will think that I should know but I don't. So, I have a 89 CRX DX, what chassis code is my crx? Hell, it may not even be a chassis code. But I see EF, EK posted all over the forums. My vin is JHMED8353KS023164 if that helps.

Thanks

USDM CRX = ED

EF gets over-used for any/all 88-91 Civics...but at least everyone know what you're talking about if you say it.
A quick Google search, "Honda Chassis Codes"...

http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id ... d=27209287

For instance, the JHMED tells you where the car was made, the manuf., what division and type of vehicle. So JHMED= Japan, Honda, Motor, Chassis ID

More info on your VIN ..

EF is the Japanese domestic market code for for the second gen. CRX chassis. Somehow it became the std. reference for all second generation CRXs and Civics. EK, EP, etc. all are chassis codes for later model Civics. Here's a breakdown of your VIN -

J - Japan
HM - is Honda Motor Co.
ED8 - is code for CRX std. U.S. and Canada chassis
3 - 5 speed
5 - is the std. or DX model code
3 - Check number
K - Year 1989
S - Suzuka plant (all CRXs were made in the Suzuka plant)
023164 - Serial Number
Wow, once again everyone here amazes me! Thanks for all the help.

JHM - is Honda
I'm nitpicking here, but the first digit indicates the country of origin. In this case, J for Japan. The HM part is Honda Motor. An Accord built in the US will have a VIN starting with 1HM, for example.

Ehh, i got it right...
Went back and fixed it for everyone who didn't know every CRX was made in Japan at the Suzuka plant.
