Commercial advertisements - new section?

Hey guys, here is a new topic up for discussion regarding a change on the site:

What do you think about adding a section for commercial advertisements? I've been approached by several people asking about advertising/sponsorship, whatever. I'm not in this to make money, and I only want to do something that would benefit everybody here.

My suggestion is to add a new section where you can post an advertisement for your business, or your friend's business. And you would only be allowed to do this if the advertised party gives a discount to CRX Community members. So let's discuss it and see what everybody thinks....

At the very least, a separate forum so we don't have to sift through all the spam in the discussion forums. That way, we can view the ads if we want to.
Im always up for a discount
I think it could be a good idea, would keep it out of the regular forums anyway.

Somthing like if somone wants to advertise here, they contact you, or a mod if your out of town etc... They explain what they have, pricing, and of course discounts for community members.
I think we'll end up adding this feature. It doesn't seem like anybody is very opposed to it.
Count me in.... seems like a good idea....... I do not like the whole group buy thing but the fact that aomeone can order from a reputable business and get a discount is great... i say got for it. . .

Maybe you could set it up to where they initially had to get your approval to post in that section. Then let each company have ONE thread, and they can just go in there and update it (and change the title too), instead of posting "big sale on t-shirts... all ladies' clothes half-off!" :p

IMHO Its annoying to wade through all the "holiday parts sale" and "new shipment of CF Hoods" threads to try and find something....a lot of extra threads could be eliminated.

I'd rather see "ICON AUTO PARTS - 50% off K20s"

If they have to keep the store name at the beginning of the title (if they do change it), I think it would staybetter organized...but that's just me.

Plus threads with sales that no longer exist will get deleted (modified), instead sent "to the bottom"

I also would lock the threads so ONLY the admin/mods/company could post to that thread, so there's no BUMPING, intentionally or otherwise.

Another approach is to use the http://www.nasioc.com approach and have sub-forums for parts categories, but it can be heavy trying to make your way through there also.

But, I think its a cool idea, and Im always down with supporting people that support "me" :)

PS... im not into the whole grou buy thing either...more trouble than its worth to find the last 3 people you need to order 25 LED windshield squirters.

ICON AUTO PARTS - 50% off K20s
with that kinda discount Ill scrap my H22 and go K series
You up for that John?
 Bwah ha ha haaaa haaaaaaaa! I think i'd scrap my Nissan, and do a CRX instead for THAT deal... lol.

I'm up for discounts though to Community members though (although, maybe not 50% off a K20.. hehe)

A couple of suggestions though.... it'll need a very detailed moderator, and someone who has the time to put forth with it. This is more about quality than quantity, and posts have to be kept up with. Bumping needs to be extremely limited.

Also, i'd say that any company wishing to make a post must be first cleared by you. It cannot just be an open free-for-all...

One way to do it (and this happens to be my personal favorite) is make it so that each company has its own sub-forum, and can list all the sales and stuff they want within their own forum. That way they won't feel bumped out by other companies. Also, they can use that as sort of a 'customer support/special request' area. This would also keep things tidy. By the way, you can help that tidyness by allowing each store to be a moderator of only their forum... this can also take a lot of load off of the commercial moderator if you allow the companies to wipe their own messes ;)

By the way, you can easily charge for the forum use... if the advertiser does not pay for 30 days, then the forum is locked... 60 days, and it dissapears. I know that you're not out to make money with the site, but don't look at it like that... put the money into a pool, and maybe use it to pay for neat trinkets for the CRX Community members... like mugs, or shirts... that way, if the amount of money you have is just shy of what it'll cost to buy the shirts, then the members just pay a LOT less for the shirt... if it exceeds it, then themembers get free shirts... or something... lol
