Do you know when you're dreaming?

The other night I dreamt that I was southbound on a street I regularly travel in reality. Well, I passed a dark blue Toyota 4x4 pickup on the left hand side of the road that was for sale on someone's front lawn so I decided to turn around to have a look. There happened to be a break in the median shortly up ahead so I got turned around in about 7 seconds from the point I spotted the 4x4. Only now, the truck was on the roll and already 2 blocks northbound up the road.

At this point I thought to myself as I was redlining 1st then 2nd trying to catch up to it: Wait a minute, even if there was someone already sitting in that truck when I passed it up, it would've taken him at least 5 sec to get off the lawn and another 15 to go 2 blocks. But, it's only been about 10 seconds. What? Huh? That's when the math didn't add up and I realized it was a dream and woke up. Oh, whenever I realize that I'm dreaming I wake up. Really sucks when there's a hot girl in my dream! LOL

So, am I the only goof who knows when he's dreaming?

I seem to have very vivid dreams... It is hard to tell whether you know you are dreaming at the time or not. Sometimes i am able to make choices in my dreams, and i recognize the choice... other dreams are simply 'view only' sorta thing.

It was kinda funny, but back when i was trying to quit smoking, and using a patch, it provided me with the most vivid dreams i've ever had when i put a new patch on near bedtime... not sure how or why, but it was awesome! I'm done with smoking now of course, but i sometimes wish i was still messing with the patch... but then there is that whole nic-addiction thing to deal with

Expensive dream though, ya know? lol...
Man, you had to bring it up. My friends make fun of me for my dreams. I always have vivid dreams, and I dream a bunch of them every night. I usually remember them too. Since it's always good for a laugh, I'll share my most common recurring "nightmares"...

I always dream that I'm taking a dump in public. The urge just hits me suddenly and I can't hold it any longer. So I find myself in strange situations in strange places and I just have to go, so I do. One example from a couple years ago:

It hits me as I'm in the airport waiting for a flight. I run to this little bathroom that is the size of a very small janitor's closet. And it has brooms and everything. I sit on the pot, but as I sit down, there's no room to shut the door because my legs are in the way. And there's a ton of people in the terminal walking by laughing at me as I do my business. And the brooms are all falling down and pushing the door open wider.

Another good one: I'm at McDonalds about to order some food and it hits me. I run to the stall, which happens to be in the middle of the dining area where everybody eats. So I open the stall door, shut it, sit down and start the business. Then I realize that the stall walls are all made of glass, and everybody sitting around me is watching me (and laughing) as they try to eat their food.

And I think the one that I remember the most: I'm at a friend's house back in high school. There is one bathroom in the house, and it's in his parent's bedroom. My friend ends up having to go real bad, so he hits the bathroom first. As he's in there, the urge hits me BAD! I mean it's coming right now! So I bang on the door and tell him he has to get out NOW! But he doesn't get out cuz he's not finished yet. So I panic, look around for somewhere good to go. And I open the drawer in his parent's end-table by the bed and go to town. Just then, his mom walks in and yells at me "What are you doing Tom???" Then I wake up.

And to answer everyone's question...No, I have never woken up with a mess in my drawers. Thankfully.

I only wish I had thought about writing them all down. I've probably had 30+ dreams like those. And they are all different.
While my dreams are not as crappy as Tom's, They're usually just plain everyday stuff that I rarely have any control over and the decisions are usually what I'd make in life. Almost NEVER any fun fantasy like dreams.
Now that I've read this I'll probly have some dreams like Toms.
Don't worry Tom.....

Tom,buddy, You might want to look into that whole poop thing :) ahaha

My dreames are usually vivid... i have a hard time remembering them.. I wish I could remember them better... them better.... it really bugs me when I am having a good dream and i get woken up... and try to go back to bed and cant get back into the dream......
last night.... . .my ex g/f and my moms boss were together... .and they were going on vacation.. ( which they sone even really know each other) well I woke up and it was gone.. . . . grrr...
Sometimes I'll realize Im dreaming and i'll be able to make decisions to change the dream.

I remember when I was small (5-6ish) I had a nightmare that I was in some log cabin and these evil bad guys were after me. I was scared to death..it was one of those where you run and run and run but you can never get away, and they're always getting closer, but never quite get you. anyway, after a while I realized I ws dreaming, and I whip out a TV remote and change the channel, and it scares the guys and they run away.

Also as far as dreaming about going to the bathroom, I did that once. I was probably 13 or 14, and on a camping trip. I was dreaming I had to pee BAD, so I run to the bathroom and let it flow. Then I felt something wet and warm on my legs and woke up...I had peed A LOT inside my sleeping bag and all over me. It was horrible.

I used to be on some allergy medicine, and the main side effect was drowsiness...I had to quit taking it when I got my driver's license. Anyway, I had some crazy dreams for several years while I was taking that medicine.

Now either I dont dream as much, or I dont remember them. I dunno.

Hahaha! I've actually read that book cover to cover. It's a good one.
Tom, you're not the only one with recurring bathroom dreams. With me, it's usually that I have to go, but either all the toilets are out in the open in public areas with people all around, or they're all overflowing and too gross to use.

The last one I had was weird. I went into a restroom, and a lady followed me. I went into a stall, and I could see that she was standing right outside it, facing me, her feet were even a little under the door, she was so close. So I went back out, and said something like "Fine, if you're so hell-bent on using this particular stall, go right ahead, ya weirdo." Then I went to find another stall, and ... all the others were overflowing and too gross to use.

And sometimes I do realize I'm dreaming; it's hard to stay asleep when that happens, but occasionally I've done it: "Woohoo! I'm dreaming! I'm going to turn it into a flying dream!" And off I go.
I love dreams... I usually cannot remember what my dream was, only the fact that I did have one.. that gets frustrating..

I seem to have very real, very vivid dreams.. sometimes I cant tell if they are real or not, thats how detailed they are to me.. Another thing that seems to happen to me, is that my dreams seem to happen in groups. Like I wont have any, or wont remember having any dreams for months, and then for like 3 or 4 weeks, every night I have some really vivid dreams. Im currently in my vivid dream stage, lately I have been having some pretty fun/interesting dreams. I will wake up from one, and get up to go take a wizz, then I go back to sleep, and have another great dream!

Last night, I was criss-crossing the country by hopping on trains and riding the rails! It was so real, I could FEEL the movement of the train, I could hear the clanks, bangs, and other assorted noises.. I could sense the danger of trying to hop onto the moving train as it was starting to pull ot of the station, and I can remember getting off in various cities and doing a little exploring, before hopping another train and heading on!

it was a really cool dream.. but I only remember a few parts of it.

the night before.. I had a dream that I was driving my car up this huge overpass.. the overpass was like 5 stories tall, and banked so much that by looking out the driver side window, you were seeing the ground.. and I was going so fast that my car kept leaving the road, and I would sail right over the cement edge and start heading to the ground, except in my dream, as soon as I realized that I was going over the edge of the overpass, the dream would start all over again, and I would be at the bottom of the overpass starting to build up speed to try to get over it..

it was like a film loop that kept going over and over and over.. weird.

Dont know what will be playing in my head tonight... hopefully it involves a hot tub, and some hotties!

thats happened to me a few times. its awesome. i end up flying through the sky in and out of clouds, or under the ocean swimming with the fishes in a colourful coral reef.

just today i was sitting at my buddies place, and i was REALLY tired. he turned on the playoffs and i couldnt keep my eyes open, i fell asleep sitting up on his couch. semi-conscious and still sort of aware of what was going on around me, cuz i could still hear the noise of the TV and my buddy playing World of Warcraft at his desk. thats when my mind started to wander.

i find that the funniest, strangest dreams occur when taking a nap rather than in the dead of night. i guess my imagination goes to sleep with me at ngiht, but not during a nap.

i dont know why but eating cheese right before bed seems to make my dreams extremely strange... almost hallucinogenic. maybe its the mould

I have the same problem. I am pretty sure that I dream, I just never remember anything about it once I wake up. It wasn't always that way though. Maybe it has something to do with me being a heavy sleeper. Once my eyes close nothing disturbs me.
More dream related stuff:

There are places in my dreams that I've mapped out in my mind. When I dream about those places I know the location and layout. I can revisit say a certain building that existed in a past dream and know where the entrances and exits are. I'm not sure how to explain it but I've even revisited places in reccuring dreams by traveling to them from other places in other recurring dreams, almost like I had a map. Only, the map is locked away somewhere in my brain and can only be accessed when I'm dreaming. At least that's what I think is happening anyway.

I also have dreams that I don't remember til months or even years later when something triggers the memory. What's even weirder is sometimes that trigger doesn't come until I see something in a dream that reminds me of the dream I had a long time ago but couldn't ever remember when I wasn't dreaming.

Thats Deja Vu... Or a type of it at least.. It happens to me ALOT! I will dream about something, not really remembering the dream, but then outta nowhere, I will have that eerie feeling like "hey this has happened before" you'll be with some friends driving, and all of a sudden, it just hits you.. you were talking about this exact same thing, passing that exact same road sign, heading to the exact same place..... creepy!

I think that our minds hold more abilities then we can even fathom. I think that all of us have, to some extent, the ability to see into the future, but since we cannot harness that ability, it just expresses itself in our dreams, and in our subconscience and its what we call Deja Vu.

Hey? didnt we just have this conversation??? lol

Nah thats just a glitch in the matrix... they'll fix it in a minute...

anyone ever had a dream with a friend or someone they know, and swear it was real... you have a conversation with them in a dream then a few days later ask them what they thought about whatever subject it is you dreamt talking to them about and then they call you crazy cuz it never happened in real life?

this has happened to me more than a few times

I'm pretty sure I have and I'd swear my mom has cause she's accused me of saying stuff I haven't so that's gotta be the explanation.

Actually, just this morning I was dreaming about work. I was managing an emergency outage call. The people were all very real. The conversation was all logical, clear, made sense. My troubleshooting skills were as sharp as ever. It was so weird. I was so disappointed when I woke up and realized I wasted good dream time by working.
