yea so its pretty obvious why its making that sound. Could this be fixed, or should I just take it to a shop?[/img]

Looks like someone already half-assed it.

It can be fixed....but usually by a decent bodyshop.
I know a certain member who had to go back several times to the stealership to have it re-repaired. :rolleyes1:
another issue I need to look at too. At least mine isn't so ghetto-ized
my drivers side is also mega-messed up in that area. pretty much the worst part of my car. It was ghetto-welded and is cracked up and rusty in a couple square inch area.

any ideas on cost of repair ??

*edited after receiving a pm about bad language* ....!!
Mine is also f-ed. I just took the check link out. The door opens too wide, but not enough to damage anything. I'm just careful with it for now.
Yeah that click is so annoying. It's done it on all 3 of my CRXs. :rolleyes1:
Cost me $30 to repair mine at the local body shop. They even painted the weld yellow to match :)
I've never seen this before. I think you'd really have to push on the door with some force to get that to break loose like that. A couple welds should certainly fix it though.

The place I went said they see it all the time. The metal fatigues after time It's the reason so many cars have dents in the front quater panel...but yea I guess people are doing miami vice type door openings or something.
I didn't realize other people had this problem too!
People who aren't familiar with my car think they just broke the door the first time they hear it 'POP-CLAAANG!'

-> jfrolang:
I don't think it's a problem from excessive force, it's a rust prone area.

That's reassuring. My car is mostly rust-free (except for the left rear quarter) so I guess I can stop worrying about it. :)
Yup...Us yankees have to deal with that deadly snowsalt..
Rust makes that area a pita to deal with.
Get an estimate and let us know.
buy a door from the scrap

Would a new door have that piece? I would think it would be part of the doorjam and not the door itself.
that part is in the jam of the car itself ,it's not caused by rust just poor spot weld from the factory the only thing to do is have it welded ,i've seen this on cars with less than 50k on them and no rust
I think it also occurs when people try to over extend the door past the limit imposed by that check link. People swing the long, heavy crx doors open hard and it fatigues that little area very quickly.

I have it too. Was welded and failed. Will try again at body shop.
Which part should be re-welded? My driver's side is doing that pretty bad, and I'm thinking that I could just lay a few quick beads and be done with it.
The part in question is called a "door check".
The part becomes loose because the small spot weld that holds the part to the unibody breaks free from the welds.
If your handy with a welder remove the pin and tack a few welds on the door check and your done.
