My car pings pretty good in all gears under heavy (1/2 or more) throttle. Does not have much power and I need to down shift from 5th to 4th to 3rd and sometime even 2nd to climb freeway hills. But I do get good MPG>

I did find out how to retard the distributor a little, but it does not help!

I was told that maybe the timing belt was off a tooth or 2 as this is common in an engine swap.

So I went to Mr Fix-it to see how much it would cost to just replace the timing belt as I have bought the car used with lots of miles on it and no idea how long it has been since it has been changed.

They want to replace the water pump as well and all the belts and said it would cost around $350.

Does this sound right.

I am in Las Vegas if anyone can help (I will pay) check or change the belt timeing.
