So I've been going on a wiring binge for my CRX haha...

Anyway, I want to hardwire my Escort so it sits up on the windshield again and I have a couple of questions. First off, will it be ok behind the shaded strip? My last CRX didn't have one, so I just had the detector all the way at the top, and ran the wire behind the headliner. I imagine it should be ok for regular microwave radar, but not for LIDAR.
Next, where do people mount the button on the remote mute thing? I tried using double sided tape on my last car and putting it on the bottom of the cluster under the defroster, but the tape never stayed. I also want to install this one right, I don't want this car full of tape and zip ties. I was thinking about using one of the little square panels on the dash, the largest one, to mount it along with the wideband's LED and button and an SCS switch. I can't figure out a way to do it though, the shape of it is weird and difficult to work with.

I've got my V1 mounted just above the mirror, and it is able to "see" just under the tint band. (pic) My windshield is not original though, so I don't know if it would be different on yours. I like how it sits up there, it's within a glance and it's practically invisible from outside the car. I ran the power wire along the headliner and down the pillar, behind the plastic. It's connected to the accessory port on the fusebox, so it comes on when the car comes on.

And according to Mr. Valentine, (link) mounting high up, even behind the tint band, is best for early laser warnings.

I've installed switches in those square panels before, what I did was use a dremel to make a hole the proper size and shape of the switch, until I could just force it in. That way it's mostly held in by friction, in case you need to remove it sometime. I use a dab of silicone on the inside to further hold it in, since silicone is more readily peeled off than glue.

Yeah, this is how I had it on the old car. I ran the wire the same way. I'm not sure if it will be the best there, and I was considering moving it anyway since I can't use the visor when it's up.

This is what the remote display looks like, it's a PITA to mount on anything. I know the V1 one is nice and squarish, much easier to work with.

If you have metallic tint, it will hurt your radar reception. I specifically asked for non-metallic tint (most places use metallic now, because it fades a lot less) for that reason. The link posted from Valentine One talks about tint and laser (basically, tint hurts laser reception, but also blocks sun which can contaminate the laser reception, so it evens out. At night, you would get a slight benefit from being under the tint.) I have my detector mounted above the rear view mirror, and I wanted a tint stip (20%) to help hide the detector, I like it to be stealthy.
