I am putting together a 90 CRX DX w/ZC swap to use as a daily driver. It is going to need an exhaust system and I wanted to solicit some opinions.

Option 1 is to have a muffler shop cobble together something using a Walker Super Turbo mufffler and a pretty tip.

Option 2 is to put a complet DNX system on (a little over $300 from Summit Racing & I'm local).

Option 3 is a Flowmaster rear section and a cobble from the header to the rear section.

I have access to competent people to help with the cobbles and I have a Flowmaster rear section on my 99 Civic Si and I like it (mostly quiet until I don't want it to be!).

Is there something better out there? I don't want to spend mega bucks on full cat back systems.

Thank you,

Scott

i had a local exhaust shop make me a full catback with muffler and tip for $150ish. They used aluminized pipe so it wont rot off like the factory one, atleast for a longtime to come  If your not looking to spend alot of money that might be a good option for you.

I had a friend make mine. Originally 2.5inch crush bend piping with a 24" cherry bomb and a hedman glass pack tip. Later I decided I needed a muffler, so we added in a $20 Turbo 2 from Autozone (Scott's suggestion) and replaced the bends with mandrel bent stainless, TIG'd together. Total cost still hasn't exceeded $100, and it sounds good. It sounded a lot buzzier without the muffler, obviously, very racy. Since I've added that in, I've been very happy with it (surprising for the money!), and you can now hear the intake sound which in my opinion is much better.
For comparison, Jared has a 2.5 inch Thermal R&D on his car with the A6. He cut the Thermal tip off and bought the same Hedman tip I have, his exhaust sounds a little quieter and a little more metallic still, and that's a decent catback (purchased by the PO of my car).

Whatever you build, use good steel and paint it, keep it clean and you should be all set.

Alright, Check this out, I had a local muffler shop put a Vortex cherry bomb muffler and 2.5 inch piping on my car, with dual outlet, it sounds like an American LeMans Prototype car when revved up, i've had people offer me 5 grand for my car just because it sounds so awesome, very good sounding, you'll never go back, just have to cut out a little of the black plastic on the bumper to make it fit and look like it came that way.

that's the only problem, i have no pictures of the setup because after about ten years, it rusted through and i blew a 8x8 inch hole into it, ahah, it was loud after that, i will post a drawing of it, i've since replaced it with a crappy model, and will soon be going back to the original duals,
