Greetings,

Just got our 4th civic ... this one is a Red '89 CRX Si.

I've noticed that on all of our Civics (2 wagons, a hatch and CRX) the paint(?) is flaking off the trim pieces at the base of the door windows.

Can someone advise on the steps to get this piece of trim off so I can strip and recoat it ?

its held on by phillips screws and a series of clips. There is one screw under the mirror. I think then its only a bunch of clips.

Plan on replacing the clips though, because I have yet to figure out how to get them off without breaking them (or find anyone that knows how to). On my last CRX, I used a permanent marker to fill in the cracks temporarily. :lol:

lol, those moldings are tricky and even if you know how to take them off you usually break at least 1 clip, especially if they are old and brittle. I will enlighten you on the correct way to remove them, after you remove all the screws, roll your window down as far as it will go. wedge your finders inbetween where the molding meets the glass and the glass, so basically your prying your fingers into the inside of the molding, grab it with a good grip and gently roll the molding back away from the glass towards you, it might require starting in a few different spots before it lets go but once the first clip unlocks its cake to get the rest off. grab and roll, grab and roll. it took me 3 years of working in the auto body field to figure this one out, lol. good luck.
