im haveing some probelms with i think my fuel pump and i just wanted to see if any of you guys have any idea on what the problem is :)

ok here is some info on my car
1985 crx hf
1987 crx si d15a3 with dx cam and mechanical fuel pump and at the moment dx carb

so here is my problem

when i put on a diffrent carb today i turned the key and it fired right up ran for a bit then died and now it only wants to run if i pour fuel into the carb but then as soon as that fuel is all gone it dies :lol:so i took the fuel line off and turned the key and it pumps  so i put it back on and still nothing ,so i take it off again and its not pumping (what the )it allmost seems like its sticking but why would it even do that with a electric pump ???
ive tired 3 diffrent carbs, 2 diffrent fuel pumps and allso a electric fuel pump same deal.

any help would be appreciated or even some ideas on what to do

im allmost ready to do a FI swap

is it carburated, i thought most of those 87 si's were fuel injected, if it is carburated, check your float level, it should be right in the middle.

well yes the 87 si is fuel injected but i put a dx cam and mech fuel pump on it so i could still have the si power with out changeing to fuel injection

i dont think it has anything to do with the float level since the it has done this on every carb i put on there im going to go mess with it and see if i can figure it out

thanks guys

cross refrence the fuel psi between the mech pump and the reg pump.

it should be very easy.

do you have good spark? we think ya
do you have fuel to the engine? also on systems with a return line there is a one way check valve in it so the fuel doesnt go the wrong way. there are a lot of thing here just follow the fuel system and find where the problem starts then post it up

the mechanical pump pumps between 3 to 4 psi
and the regular electirc pump is a 7 psi pump which i regulated to about the same as the mech pump

i have good spark i know that for a fact
i did have fuel to the engine but now i dont
yes the return line have the check valve that is working

its really wierd ,the car fired right up and then just died
and when i removed the line and cranked the engine it pumped
So i put it back on and then still nothing so i checked again and nothing :?
So then i took the hole pump off and checked if it was sticking and it wasent ,so then i put it all back on and it still doesnt wanna work

but here is the thing i dont get why would it do the same thign with 2 mechanical pumps and a pretty much brand new electric pump??? this is why im stumped
i even put new fuel lines in the bay with new clamps just incase air was getting in there or the fuel was leaking where i couldent see it

im in the middle of gathering stuff for a fuel injection swap but id at least like it to run so i can move it around

and to know what the problem is say if i happen to have it happen again

It's a common problem with the second gens for the main relay to break. The soldering on the board cracks, and it doesn't run power to the fuel pump, but it's typically intermittent and happens with temperature changes. Pull the relay out, take it apart and have a look. I don't know if this is a problem on the first gens, but I know the relay is the same for the first gen Integras, so it should be similar.

Your engine will crank without it, all the MR does is power the ECU and fuel system.

ill pull it again and do so but i soldered it once before
but the first gen doesnt have a ecu since its carbed and the fuel pump is cam ran right ?? all the harness har is a bunch of relays correct ,ive had this car stripped from the ground up many times and i never saw an ecu

since the si crxs have the ecu under the passenger seat wouldent ber in the same location :?

but ill pull it again and check my solders but i really dont think its going to make a diffrence

thanks bro
