I don't have the cash now, but I am considering placement of future gauges and wanted to see what you guys think. I don't want pods on the pillar.

Installed in yellow vertical dash area (is it even possible or are the windshield vents in the way?)

With a cover on the red horizontal area?

Or somewhere else?

If I ever get around to putting together a turbo kit, I plan to put 3 gauges in the red area (air/fuel ratio, EGT and oil pressure) and one gauge (boost) in the same area on the opposite side of the gauge cluster.
Who was it that had their gauges installed on a plate that fit below the stereo slot? Azulito? I'm trying to remember. That was a slick placement of them.

I vote for your yellow section. If you've ever seen gauges there you realize (or at least I did) that nothing else will ever look as good.

Here's a few pics of SETI's car with the gauges in that location.

If I was going to remove the stereo, I would probably put them in the head-unit location. Since I have no such plans however, I like them there under the windshield.

A google glance turned up a few other Options

wow, that interior looks really slick. the aluminum detailing on the vents and around the HVAC controls and stereo looks very nice, and the guages mounted at that position do look damn good.
Nice. What kind of gauges are those? How did they affect the airflow of the windshield vents?
I always thought it was a royal pain in the arse to mount gauges there.
I had planned to mount mine like SETI did (Yellow spot) but time interfeared and I did this:

I'd much rather them like SETI's, mine are tilted up a little and sometimes hard to see from glare, I might eventually get some of those things to tilt them.

that still looks good, just not as permanent.
I have two pillar mount pods (4 gauges) and it sucks sometimes when you turn fast and overlap your hands sometimes it hits them. But I also have 3 other gauges on the "red" zone. I am a gauge whore.

I had to adjust my "flailing arm" approach to turning my steering wheel fast because of that problem. I kept wacking the tips of my fingers on the gauge pod. Ouch!

I have 3 gauges on the pillar... Modified an Autometer 3 gauge a-pillar pod for an 88-91 Civic to make it fit. You just have to cut 2.5 - 3" off the end of the pillar pod to get it to fit.

as i was reading through i was like man i should take a picture of how i did mine and show everyone. but shorte has the same exact thing as me.. but mine dont seam to be tilted. i rather do it like he did then cut into my dash... yea so mine looks like that but with other style guages.

scarponze
I think the reason it's tilted some is I had to trim a decent amount of plastic off the gauge console thing to make it fit snug in there wthout drilling into the dash.
The only cutting I did was a little on the corner of the stock cluster cover where the wires go down through.
how have you fastened the cluster to the dash there? is it adhesive or bolts or something else? whenever i leave my sunglasses or cell phone up there, whatever it is always ends up on the floor under the seat, or out the window if im turning fast enough
It's actually just wedged in there, trimmed so that the rear edge of it kinda is stuck into the slit behind it(between the greay part and the black part)
But there are some screws that I cut in half so it looks like it's screwed down.
I'll get another pic from above
did anyone answer what kind of guages those were?
Bump from the dead.

My gauges are just plain Megan racing gauges.
The install itself was easy. Drill hole, push in gauge, done.

HOWEVER; I'm planning on taking the gauges out of that location.
It's all really nicely arranged and all, but the gauges reflect in the front window when it's dark. I'm thinking of replacing my dash with a VT one.

...but I haven't decided yet, and I might mount them there again.
