I'm in desperate need of getting new hatch struts/shocks

I was just curious if they're interchangeable in the 2nd Gen
or if they're yearly exclusive

They're not year-specific, but they are model-specific. Hatch struts are the same for all 88-91 CRXs, but they fit no other car. Make sure you don't get Civic hatchback struts.

I just replaced mine, $40.00 for the pair at auto zombie. Finally I am free of that wooden stick!

I bought Mitey Lift from AZ about 7-8 years ago. They still work but won't lift the hatch up on their own anymore. They'll still hold the hatch up.

I was fortunate, I bought the car from a good friend, and he'd taken a mop handle and cut one end to an angle to fit the hatch. So it is the perfect length and stays put.

Of course, I often had the hold the hatch with my head while trying to reach the stick.

And then there's that awkward "kick the hatch up with your back and then catch it on your head as gently as you can while trying to get back out of the hatch" when you have to reach something deep in the car. Won't be missing that, no sir.
