Honda-powered go-kart

I've had this idea bugging me for ahile now. What If I busted out my welder and put together a go-kart.

Do you guys think an engine from a CRX would fit on one? I wonder how hard it would be, I'd love to have a little manual go-kart to screw around in, and I could probably get an older engine pretty cheap.

The only problem I forsee is gear ratios and the pure size of te engine on a chassis that small, but it would be pretty cool if you ask me.

To tell you the turth, I'm more of a fan of the LSJ powered Atom

GM LSJ FTW!!!

Put a whipple on that bitch, and say goodbye
Come on man, you used the words " my welder " and " would it fit" in the same sentence. . . . .

heck yeah it will fit. . . .weld like you are nuts. . . . . make er work man. ..

actually what about just using the front end of he car. . i saw something simaler on Extreme 4xe at wyotech where they just had front clips that they made shortned axles for and were ruising hem around. . . i thnkl there was a Honda and a Toyota

I just thought it would be cool if there was a normal go-kart chassis, with a stacked engine in the back.

Even if it theoretically could fit, I wonder how the the height of the engine would effect the center of gravity. Imagine how cool it would be to run something like that at the track though. ( i doubt it would be legal).

I'm sure I could pick up a stock D16 from a swap for really cheap though
Strip the car completly down, take off the doors, fenders, hood, interior, hatch. Cut off the top of the car. Your done  . IMO it would be sick to drive something like that.
That Gixxerkart is a little too much for me so anything else is just a little well um a deathtrap.

I would love to have Kartvaders setup though. He is my idol.
you gus are really getting me thinking about htis kart thing now. . .. THANKS ALOT. . .. before you know it ill be cuting up the rex and tealingthe b18 to build a kart that i can rip up and down my street on.

Yeah , , the thought of a crx powered kart is awesome and i would love to se you go ahead with this project. . . ..

go for it. . . . and keep up posted. .

To do that to a CRX should be a felony

You know what would be even cooler?

If I used all CRX parts.

Like, the steering wheel from a CRX, and pedals and whatnot.

Even wheels and brakes

Wow, that would kick ass, too bad I dont have a garage :(
I'm pretty sure the gixxerKart people did a Honda powered 2 seater version. Honestly, I think using a motorcycle engine is going to make your life alot easier. Just the shifter alone would be a pain with a car-based setup... Unless you want to put the engine in front of the driver that is. Then there's the weight issue: A Honda car engine/transmission probably weighs more than your typical complete gokart. A rear-mounted setup with the torque of a car engine combined with car gear ratios would probably allow you to pull wheelies in 5th gear... Sounds cool, but suicidal in practice.

I would defintely rather use a motorcylce engine, but the only problem with that is cost and I'd have a hard time finding parts for it.

Plus I'd rather have a regular shifter and clutch

Not that I would ever THINK about doing this to my car...but This seems pretty cool.
