Apparently...

1. Buy a relatively rust-free automatic DX with 217k for a few hundred bucks.
2. Put a intake, header, and exhaust on, but leave the DPFI DX engine alone.
3. Throw a body kit on, have it painted, and put all the eBay clear lights you can on it, along with some cheap wheels, seats, etc.
4. Watch literally DOZENS of people line up to bid on it.

Can't wait to see what this thing goes for. Man, a body kit and fresh paint job goes a LOOOOOONG way on eBay, huh?

This does bode well for me, because I am planning to sell in a few months, and I now feel like I could do pretty well selling it on eBay if I can't find a buyer on here or honda-tech.

EDIT:

WOW, that's a nice 87 Si with under 50k miles. I had a silver 87 Si as a beater a few years back, but this one is just bangin'.

I love the '87 CRX Si but I do not buy the mileage, the interior is far too worn for a sub 50K car, very clean on the outside and engine bay but those seat bolsters have more than 48K miles on it unless the owner drive it like 2 miles every day to work and back for the last 20 years and got in and out of the car alot. Unless all the fabric is rotten from sitting out in the sun for a long time.

Age as well as mileage has to be taken into account, and yeah, short trips would mean the same number of times in and out of the car with lower miles. Or, maybe the first owner was a bigger guy. The interior isn't THAT worn...not every 50k car is a museum piece, especially at 20 years old.

There's no reason I would doubt the mileage on that Si one bit, all in all it's VERY clean for a 1G -- if you've spent much time looking for one, you'll know that ones that clean are very hard to find.

One thing I would NEVER do is mold the bumpers into the body. Thats going to suck as soon an it needs to be removed...
Yep, and knowing how those bumpers attach I sure wouldn't trust it not to crack, even if it was reinforced. Molding the bumpers also turns a little fender-bender into a VERY expensive job -- what should be a quick repair of the bumper suddenly turns into a lot of work fixing the whole front end. I don't get it...say the front bumper has to come off for some repairs -- good luck with that.

Wow, just wow....a DX with DPFI, automatic, pop up sunroof, ebay seats currently going for $3500. The paint and body kit appear to be well done but not enough to warrant $3500+. I guess this good news is....CRXs are rising in value and clueless F&F wannabes will pay top dollar on Ebay for something that looks like it will go fast......

That 87 CRX is beautiful.... but it has been repainted. The very first picture shows the color difference between the door and the fender.
What else are they not being 100% honest about??

In this shot they look like the same color. That first shot has some reflections going on...you can see a certain level of detail reflected in the door, and that's all washed out in the fender due to a hotspot of glare. I dunno, just my opinion -- small, low-quality JPGs from a digital camera can be pretty misleading (and that goes both ways -- they can make an average car look great, or make a great car look average, depending on who is shooting the photos and/or color correcting them in Photoshop).

That's why it takes a lot of guts to buy a car sight unseen. I'd have to see a car in person before dropping much money on it, unless I had a trusted associate check it out for me.

This guy pulled the auction for the '87 Si anyway. It was up to $2150 or so on Saturday morning, and he pulled it that afternoon. Not sure when it was originally scheduled to end, but with no reserve he might have been getting a little nervous about the selling price. Or, perhaps more likely, he sold the thing to someone who made him an offer. That sucks about eBay sometimes, people use it just as a place to post an ad, and they pull the auction early to sell to a person who made an off-eBay offer, avoiding some eBay fees and screwing over the honest bidders in the process.
