I got speakers, now what?

OK, after writing my previous post about sound systems, I talked to a few friends and grabbed some Pioneer speakers in mint condition for pretty cheap (4 of them). I took the grill off of the door panels, there weren't even stock speakers in there! I thought they were just blown, but they weren't there. I wired the Pioneers up and dropped them in, but neither of the front ones work. The speakers are fine, I tested them out, but they don't work when they're hooked up on the doors.

Whoever had my car before me must have been "challenged", if you know what I mean, because the stock wiring harness is cut off. I had to ghetto-rig it for now because I'm too poor to do it any other way, so I just krimped everything. Everything is all wired up correctly, but the front speakers aren't playing. What could be wrong with this? Someone told me I should get all brand new wires ran the whole way around because the stock wires are crappy and old. How hard would that be to do, and where do the remote, power, and ground wires run to?

Aaron,
Do you have a Volt meter with a Ohmmeter option?

I would try to get a resistance reading on the speaker wiring.
What I mean by that is touch one of the dvom leads to the head unit harness and the other to one of the speaker leads at the door.
Any ohm reading of 5 ohms or less is considered a "good" circuit.
Let us know how that turns out.
Pm me your phone # if you need more info.
Another thing to check would be if the back of the speaker is touching metal i.e. the door. I have seen it happen but not often. Usually the window won't go down, but again I have seen it happen. Ha! Just remembered a time I was checking over a guys work and he managed to push the window at an angle just to get the speaker in, because the speaker was so deep and pushed really hard and tightened the screws. The guy thought he did a great job but I noticed the door had a dent in it from where he pushed so hard. So I tried the window and the window went inside the car instead of straight up and down. Pretend this is the window: | before / after. Good times lol
