So I just bought another 91 white si. It has a blown motor and 222,000 miles on it. I haven't actually seen it yet because I am @ college 2 hrs from home. I had my dad go and pick it up for me.

I want it set-up for a reliable, occasional driver. I probably won't drive it that much because I have my RSX that I like driving more.
Right now I am probably going to buy a zc sohc from Hmotors. It is a direct drop in and will be good for now, since I don't have much money to spend.

Eventually I'd like to do a better swap. B16 or B18

My main question is: Should I buy the ZC tranny with the motor for $150????

Since the car has a blown motor, my dad couldn't drive it. So I don't know if the tranny is good, or if the clutch is good, etc.

Has anyone purchased the zc motor and tranny from HMO???

I would check to see if the transmission comes with the intermediate shaft. I believe Hmotors is a reliable place to purchase from. I think, these days, you will have better luck with the SOHC ZC. I know about 4 years ago DOHC ZCs were getting pretty rare, especially in good shape. My buddy and I ordered 2, one didn't run, the other lasted 2 months before spinning a rod bearing and sending the rod through the block.

i've been arguing against ZC swaps lately, simply because it seems like you can get a newer, just as powerful d16z6 or d16y8 for less money. you have to source an appropriate ECU and convert the wiring to obd I/II, but considering you can almost definitely find one local (and therefore don't have to pay shipping), it seems like a better deal. you'll also have an easier time figure out what replacement parts to get for it.

Which is what makes the Zc swap so attractive in the 1st place, it is almost a Plug n Play application. Really no OBD issues, and easier/ less wiring to do( if it is going into an SI).

maybe 4 years ago, but with rywire et al., changing OBD levels is about as hard as installing an intake. pretty reasonable prices, too. of course, it's something that does need to be weighed appropriately when making the decision.
