any ideas as to why my intermittent wiper function takes almost 3 minutes before they start to work properly? once they start to work they work fine, it just takes so long for them to start.

I would guess a bad relay. Or a short somewhere. Is it always around 3 minutes then works fine? The relay should be easy enough to replace and not be very expensive.

I have the exact same thing going on in mine.

There is a controller box near the interior fuses that can be replaced to fix it, and I have been planning to get around to pulling mine out someday and looking it over for cracked soldering.

The thing is, every time I get down there and see just how hard it is to pull all that crap out ot get to the box, my motivation diminishes.
