Ive found a source for both a head and a block. the guy ran it boosted at 6psi for a few months. the engine he claims has 45000km on it, so not too many. but that is just a claim, who knows how long its been driven on. no problems though, the price is right at 400 bux canadian.

what im worried about is: how hard is it to find JDM parts, or can i use USDM parts for this bad boy?

also, he posted up the engine's vin number. where would i go to look up the record on it, make sure its not stolen?

he says it comes with a blockguard. me being the newb still, i dont know what the heck that is. any ideas ???

thanks in advance

A blockguard I believe is a piece of aluminum (about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick) that takes up all the open area in the top of the block around the cylinders to the block (the water area). It keeps the cylinders in line under heavy power loads... more so used on turbo engines. Some people use threaded rod to "pin" the cylinders to the block (the drill the block and tap it) to accomplish the same thing. Some people claim that block guards are not very good for your engine because it messes up the cooling.

I don't know about the jdm parts on b series... but myself, I would love a b18

here's another question: where should i go to get my obd0 to obd1 wiring conversion harness?

i found some on e-bay EBAY LINK

ive never done a swap before, but i have converted DPFI to MPFI and i HATED the wiring. a conversion harness seems much more straightforward, but i dont want to buy junk. if im gonna do this swap, i want to do it right.

not too familiar with B series. to swap it into my car, would i need...
wiring harness AND obd0 to obd1 converer?
ecu
axles
shift linkage
b series tranny?

is this correct? i know the info is out there, all i gotta do is search. but im at work and im not supposed to be the internet at all. ill look it up tonight, but i'm impatient.

thanks for the link, rywire has some damn good prices.

what is the difference between a B18A and B18B? the wiring harness they have on rywire specifies A, would it still work for me?

so correct me if im wrong: i use the ditributor conversion adapter AND the ecu conversion adapter... and i keep my old wiring harness? or do i use the harness from the B18?

i guess it would be easier to figure out if i had all the bits and pieces in front of me, but i want to know ahead of time, get all my parts at once, and do the whole job in the least amount of time possible.

this might have to be moved to modification garage as well... now that it is getting more technical.

gave them an e-mail and they answered within the day. good way of doing business :)

with the adapters for the ecu and the distributor, i get to keep my SI harness. this is good news for me. i can keep me D16 in storage and build it up, or just make it more reliable (as it has 350000 km on it) and if the B18 dies, the D16 goes back in while i fix the problem. or i could boost it :D

im liking this whole project the more i think about it.

thanks for the heads up, jfrolang rex2nr and akirarex

all i need now is a place to do all the work

b18a was in the first gen teg, odb0 and the b18b was in the follow gen, which was obd1, the obd1 also had a hydro trans. think their maybe some hp/tq difference but it was very small
The first gen teg was 86-89, it had a D16A1. The 2nd gen teg (90-93) had the B18A, 130hp. 90-91 were OBD-0 with cable trans. 92-93 were OBD-1 with hydro trans. The 3rd gen teg (94-01) had the B18B, 140hp. 94-95 were OBD-1, 96-01 were OBD-2. All of them had hydro trans.

The JDM B18B was OBD-1 with 145hp and hydro trans.
