I have a 1988 cr-x si that I blew the motor on and I’m looking for a bit more power. K24a2 sounds like one of the easiest ways to go, I hit it’d be convenient if I didn’t have to get a new transmission with it. Is it possible to use the stock si trans with k24a2?

In the Honda family, you have to stick with the same engine and transmisison designations for compatability.

D-series
B-series
H-series
K-series

To use a K24 you also need a K-series transmission, among dozens of other modifications. In fact, the K24 doesn't fit under the stock hood either so it is not a common swap.

If you are looking for bolt-in swaps with the same transmission, you are limited to the D series and ZC family. The D16Z6 is the most common "performance" version. The D16A6 in your Si is a great motor and if I were in your shoes I would find a D16A6 replacement.

Horsepower is never cheap.
D series aftermarket is not what it was 10 years ago. Neither is B series mods but there is still a lot of stuff out there.
It all depends of how much $$ you'd be realistically willing to spend in the search of more HP.

I.m.o a turbo set up will give the best bang for your buck. Considering that you will need to go obd1 anyways and will need to have it tuned as well.
Im finishing a y8 swap which has taken me wayyy to long.
I got tired of pushing the car in and out the garage everytime I need to work on my car or a home project.

If all goes well I'll go from a smoking bad ashh 92 bhp D15B2 to a D16y8 with 128 bhp. but seriously literally it smoked like a hibachi, I mean it was smoking, knoking , pinging, leaking oil from all over... 😂😂.

Besides the head gasket blew up.
after crunching some #s a newer and stronger engine was the obvious decision in my case.


I'm a bit old to be making my car any faster than that.

I have an 89 CRX si with the D16A6 that I recently rebuilt and added a nitrous wet kit. The kit is adjustable from 35 to 100hp. I settled in on the 50hp jets and it is a screamer when the bottle is open.
