Hi all,
Alot of people have been asking about this hydro adapter, and Ive been through the ringer with it, so ill relay my tale to you all.
April 2006, got my new car, planning on tossing in my shiny fresh B18C1. Start looking around, everyone says hasport or nothing, so hey, ok. I break open the piggy bank (more like 3) order up the EFB2 kit plus linkage.
Ill preface this with saying, the actual mounts have been great! Everything else, not so much. I get it all in no major issues, Im pretty handy with a wrench. First thing I notice is damn, the clutch pedal force is extreme. Im only running an ACT HD plate and street disc, it shouldnt be like that (and wasnt at all that bad when it was in my teg). Some people suggested it was because I was using a cable, but my old cars with way nastier clutches were nowhere near this extreme. Everyone assures me this is normal, so I roll with it.
Life goes on, Im driving my car, readjusting my clutch cable all the time. Then I notice my shifter getting sloppy. I fire up the old laptop, head over to summit and order me up some poly stabilizer mounts. Then I navigate to majestic honda and order me a new roll pin. Couple days later everythign comes in, I put on my bright orange jumpsuit, securely lift the car, and install my new parts. Things feel nicer, but theres still a ton of play. I make a few calls, do some thinking. Then it hits me, UJoint!. I take the linkage out and man, the U joint is destroyed. thing was only a few months old! I hit up rywire, and then hasport, to see what to do.
I pushed pretty hard to get something crosshipped, but it jsut wasnt meant to be. We work out an amicable deal, where I overnighted my linkage to them, they put in a new delrin ujoint, and they overnighted back in good faith, based on my overnighting it to them. I felt pretty good about this service, even though my car was down for a few days. The new linkage has been fine for quite awhile now, so I have to give htem credit. I mentioned the hydro adapter, and got a few suggestions, but nothing helped.
Time keeps on ticking and Im getting real tired of replacing my clutch cable, I also notice my clutch pedal itself is taking a beating. My clutch cable completely broke on a return trip at easter, and I was pretty pissed off at this point. I keep looking for a solution, to the point where I actually bought a cable transmission to prepare for a swap. Then I talked to a local tranny builder who swore he could fix my hydro adapter. I took it off with the quickness, and sent it over to him. See, the problem was, the frontmost piece was riding against the middle piece harder and harder as you pushed in the pedal. His solution was simply to countersink a groove into the back of the adapter. And WOILA, the thing is dead nuts perfect now.
So I order up a fresh cable, clean up the adapter, retorque it on all perfect and im happy, for a few days....Im trying to dial in my clutch cable and it keeps getting all wonky on me. I completely understand it takes a few days for the cable to 'settle' but this was more than that. Im thinking maybe the cable i sjust wack or something, but the pedal sure does feel weird.
Flash to today, I go home at lunch to fire up the rex and drive it back to work. Pull out, clutch pedal feels weird, shift like 3 times, thrid shift foot goes to the floor. My goddamn clutch pedal broke off!
I push the car home, check it out and man the pedal assembly looks like its been through hell. So now I have to swap my pedal set too.
So, word to the wise, if you get the hydro adapter and have binding problems, get that **** fixed asap. Otherwise youll be in the hell I was and am in.
so, in short, hasport mounts ++, hasport other stuff --
