well ever since I have bought my car, I've noticed that the engine temp has always been low low low and I've been wanting to fix that somehow. Heres what I've noticed about the gauge:

On a warm day (not freezing cold mornings) I would start the car and the temp needle would rise a couple centimeters above the C line (not the C bar as compared to the red H bar), and then when I drive off it would slowly touch the top of the C....like this

I've searched online about this and you might say DUH its the thermostat, but I've also read that it could be the water pump too? When I bought the car, the previous owner said he had done the timing belt, water pump, clutch, and I dont know what else he said but the point is I dont have any paperwork for any of those things. Im sitting at 126,XXX miles and if he just blabbered about all that, it means that I could be long overdue for a tune up?[/img]

It sounds like the T-stat is missing completely, if the water pump were bad you would have the opposite problem (overheating). What's happening now is you don't have a thermostat to keep coolant from flowing and letting the motor heat up. Pull off the lowerr radiator hose at the housing and take a look.

It could also be an issue with the gauge, temperature sensor... ect. Thermostats are cheap and fairly easy to swap out (just messy) so that would be a good place to start.
