I've been haggling with a friend about his DOHC ZC for a while now, and I'm really getting sick of his antics when it comes to selling this motor to me. He wants $XXX for it, but when I tell him I I'll see what I can do, he changes his mind and wants to use it for his dad's car. Then later tells me it's for sale again. Then when I tell him I'm interested, he decides not to sell again... Well this has went on back and forth since I first started talking to him about the CRX I bought from him.
Then this weekend at the NE Garage Day, I rode in John's high compression mini-me'd rex and really enjoyed it. I don't have all the details on his setup, maybe John or downest can chime in here for me. It seemed really strong at lower RPMs, which is what really apprealed to me. I daily drive mine, and rarely go over 3K rpm. I'd like to feel a bit more pull at lower RPM.
From the limited time I've spent reading up on all the various mini-me setups, I think I want to go with an a6 block, z6 head, a y8 intake manifold, and if I can get my hands on it a ZC transmission for the equal length axles, if not, I'll go Si trans.
I do have a few questions though.
What pistons do I want, high compression/domed pistons or just stock flat ones?
Which ECU do I need to activate the VTEC or should i have an external VTEC controller?
Can the ECU be adjusted to activate the VTEC at a lower RPM, say 2800 rather than 3200? (I dunno what the actual VTEC RPM is, that's jsut an example)
How's the idle on a mini-me in cold/hot temps?
Any light that can be shed on this project idea would be great. I know I've got a lot of reading to do, so I'll keep at it while gathering parts. Any info you feel is important that I've overlooked or not mentioned, feel free to throw at me.
