I don't think they had the tools on them to cut the wires. Even my radio harness is still intact. The only wires broken is my power and ground to the head unit. Luckily they didn't damage my RCA connections because they cost a pretty penny.brx017 said:Bummer dude.
How did they take your amp... cut the wires or unhook everything?
So...basically, they want to take your car away? Are they insane? It's not like your perfectly good car is severely damaged. The stereo equipment just needs replacing. And that is why you pay insurance premiums...to protect yourself against financial burden under unforeseen circumstances. No doubt that they will get more than $1500 if they sell your car to someone else. They need to come back to the table with a realistic proposal.joshman said:The insurance adjuster was just over and she is wanting to salvage my car, Claiming the damage is equal to or greater then 75% of the vehicle value which she lists at $2000. I guess it doesn't matter that I have nearly a $1000 in the trans alone.
It doesn't matter. I can't see the damage being that much, but even if it was, if they total it they cut you a check for what they consider the full value of the car (in this case, 2 grand) and then you can buy the car back for the salvage value of it (usually a couple hundred bucks). So it really makes no difference whether you get a check for the damage, or they total it and you buy it back. The only real problem might be that the total/buyback option might leave you with a salvage title, which can suck if you want to sell the car at some point.stickershop said:So...basically, they want to take your car away? Thats what I was getting at... having to re-run new wires would suck.joshman said:Luckily they didn't damage my RCA connections because they cost a pretty penny.
Uh-Oh... welcome to my world. I was hit by an old man (his fault) nearly two months ago. Over $2000 in damages...value of the car: $1700. The sucky part for me is, just before he was gonna cut me a check for $1700 (and let me keep the car), he finds out it has a "salvage rebuilt" title...so they say my car is worth NOTHING... but out of the goodness of their heart they're gonna give me $300. The most I could haggle out of them is $600. So now I have a lawyer and a chiropractor on my side, and hopefully I can get a fair settlement out of the deal. The insurance adjuster was just over and she is wanting to salvage my car, Claiming the damage is equal to or greater then 75% of the vehicle value which she lists at $2000. Good that they aren't going to salvage the car. But it's definitely bad that they aren't honouring the insurance policy that you have been paying for. I'm guessing they realize that it isn't worth your while to get lawyered up over $1000, so they're just going to screw you.joshman said:Good news: They are not going to Salvage my Car.
Bad news: They are not going to pay for any of my repairs or stolen items.
That's exactly what happened to a buddy of mine. They refused to honor the policy citing suspicion of possible criminal activity by the owner that links to the car being stolen. (because his Accord was stolen 6mo earlier). One had nothing to do with the other and the insurance company sold him a legally binding policy for a high risk CRX in a high risk neighborhood. If there was any kind of criminal activity (fraud) going on, why weren't the policed more involved? Well, that was cuz they couldn't prove jack and didn't have jack to base any kind of case off of.stickershop said:Good that they aren't going to salvage the car.
