copied this from hondaswap, figured id share it with you guys. well this is something ive been doing since the summer. i initially bought the head unported and planned to just slap it on with some new pistons for a mild build but it has turned into so much more. i want to race honda challenege one day so i decided to build this car/engine to HC specs. im also planning to make an adapter plate to be able to use the ITR intake manifold on the gsr head. ill make another thread about that though.

build consists of:
GSR block and all new seals/gaskets from honda
JDM ITR pistons and rods with ARP rod bolts
GSR head ported by portflow, all new seals, portflow valvetrain
skunk2 stage 2 cams
ACL bearings
ARP headstuds
RC 320cc injectors
will be tuned by me with Crome Pro

im trying to make about 200-210whp on a 1.8L OEM parts bottom end :)

Nov. 4th

head comes back from portflow

Nov. 5-6th

install sensors back to the head
install extended intake manifold studs
drill/tap water neck (1/8" NPT) for water temp sender

these first 2 pics are especially for B16 :p

ill update as things progress...

Dec. 11th
k well im bringing this back up just to keep some interest. build is temporarily on hold til spring since i couldnt get anyone who was able to help me out. as i didnt/dont have a garage or reasonable place to build an engine or pull a motor.

guess ill just give some teaser pics of the parts, lol.

JDM ITR pistons/rods with ARP bolts properly installed/stretched and rods resized

as i said before, ill mostlikely replace the pistons. after i got them back from the machine shop i noticed some play in them, and i just get a bad feeling. that on top of a few gouge marks in them, i dont wanna chance it. it would suck for the motor to go because of something like pistons...

misc head parts, skunk2 stg2 cams, hondata IM gasket, and valve cover. painted by wil, and will be stripped and repainted by me :) ill probably go with just a simple krinkle black.

honda stuff, head gasket, main seals, other misc seals, new oil pan pickup (mines a little dented from the pan being dented), ACL bearings, ARP head studs, rc 320cc injectors, injector resistor box, gauges w/ senders, GE oil sandwitch (for oil pressure and temp), "magic" intake

better pic of gauges

more pics of "magic" IB spec intake w/ filter

that will be on a short ram setup. and ill be using these to relocate the battery to the frame rail right in front of the tranny so it wont be in the way of the filter

but i wont be using the odyssey battery, ill be using the nrg-cell from heel-toe

well thats all i really have for now, lol. ive also got an endyn catch can that i dont have pics of.

Feb 8th

ok more updates :)

i decided to get new pistons. theres nothing really wrong with the ones i have, but i like to plan ahead for any problems that may arise. so i went with some brand spanking new JDM ITR OS pistons. i went oversized cause im just gonna overbore the block anyway to have a nice solid cylinder wall surface. this should take care of any imperfections the cylinders might have be it scratches or out of roundness. and the price was right so i also picked up an AASCO alluminum flywheel. features parallelism to .001", 8-9lbs, and a replaceable friction surface. info on the flywheel here http://estores.merchantpartners.com/pn280/...&products_id=39

maybe a mod should move this to lounge? ....
Maybe its just me, but I think we're all too jealous to respond :p I wish my rex was running, let alone had a built B18, hehe

haha its nothing THAT special. all the money is in the head really. cause HC rules specify that from the headgasket down the block must contain OEM parts (besides fasteners). but the head is virtually free to anything i want. only thing that kinda sucks is that due to the rules the Intake Manifold and throttle body arent considered part of the head so it too must be "stock unmoddified (minus portmatching and redrilling for fitment). so im making a plate to fit the ITR mani :). i bought the metal for it yeasterday and it should be here either tomorow or next week.
I'm sitting here going oohhhh shiiiiinnyyyy, lol.

As soon as school gets done in May I'll be working on a building my D.

I love how all of Honda;s stuff is interchangable, makes sneaking around the rules that much easier, eh?

I'd like to see how you make that adapter for the IM, what thickeness of metal are you using?

yea. the adapter plate will be 3/8" thick aluminum. i dont want to go any thicker but im not sure if its thick enough. we'll see. cause the coolant ports are WAY off and the angle looks like its too steep. i may just say screw the plate and block off the coolant hole completely. it doesnt really do anything important anyway.
ahh sweet, hopefully the 3/8 will be thick enough. I think the piece I have is 3/8" also. I'm gonna need to make one if I use the ZC manifold on a D16 head
whats the weight difference between the odyssey and that nrg cell bc im running a odyssey p680 without the Mj  but i still love it but im going have look into that nrg cell bat

nrg will be lighter. the nrg is the same size as the odyssey 450. obviously smaller then the 680.
Nice build. Building an all motor B series would be a lot of fun. I love my single cams, and all motor isn't their specialty, they like boost to make any kind of power.

anoterh update. many of you have seen my rise and fall on the ITR/GSR plate thread. ive pretty much ditched that idea. im just gonna use the hondata race gasket to cover up the hole completely.

pic of the race gasket

i also got a z10 plug to plug the hole on the back on the block for the stock breather box. since i have the endyn can, i wont be using it, and needed to close up the hole.

pic of the plug

thats all for now :)

yay more updates :)

got me a brand new Type R intake manifold courtesy of Mike Bergy. too bad i had to hack it up, haha.

pic of the biggest required modification

there used to be a big chunk of aluminum right there that covered the whole opening. had to drill it out then smooth it all out with the sanding bits of the dremel.

next you can see why the RACE gasket was necessay when using the ITR manifold on the GSR head

as you can see the ITR mani wouldnt even cover the coolant hole. so the race gasket covers it up for me. i put some RTV sealant/gasket maker on there (you can see it comming out below the gasket) just as a little extra insurance so it wont leak.

shot of the mani/head combo.

overall it was fun making this work. im glad i ditched the plate idea. it had potential, but in the end this is the better solution. dremel and a hand drill were all that was needed to make this happen. just used the gaskets as a template, drilled the holes off it, then used the dremel to "fudge" the holes since some were slightly off from the bit walking or whatever.

also picked up an engine stand from harbor freight for 40 bucks! cant beat that :)

whats in the blue box you might ask? just this...

GSR block. went and picked it up from a guy in CT last week. cylinder walls look good. he said its in good condition so lets hope for no spun bearings when i take it apart. i gotta take it apart to take to the machine shop to get hot tanked, bored, honed, and talk to them about getting one of the bolt holes repaired. as you can see its kinda bare though. kinda sucks but oh well. i was gonna replace most of the stuff its missing anyway, just sucks i have to buy all the stupid little bolts now, lol. good thing they arent expensive.
