Is something wrong with putting it on your lap? I mean that's why they call it a laptop right?

I don't imagine you'll be trying to type while you're driving, so maybe you just want a custom mount for the cool factor. I've never seen anything like that though. Just rest it on the passenger seat.

I had an idea one time (not a plan, just an idea) to have a slide out tray for this purpose, behind the glove box, but I doubt there's enough room there. It would have to be custom fabricated too.

Yeah, its uncomfortable and I want my laptop open while I am driving (GPS, etc). I did some wardriving and having it on the passenger seat is not only hard to see but it also get damaged if I have to stop suddenly.

Here's a product I found that attaches to the seat bolts:

Oh, and it also has an optional cup holder. :D

Well it seems like that pretty much solves your own riddle. Are the legs flexible, to fit any car?
But I am trying to figure out if anyone has done this before I pay the almost $200.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of cop cars with those mounts, from the outside of course. They looked ok to me at the time. Other than making something your self, I don't know what to tell you.

Oh yes, girlfriends are for much more than holding the laptop

Do you have anyone near you that can fabricate/weld? I'd go custom on something like that, especially considering the uniqueness of the CRX layout, and the fact that the mount is probably designed for much bigger cars...

I don't know anyone. Perhaps I could talk Shorte into fabbing it after he passes his stone.

The mount above has a specific application to the CRX. Or at least they indicate they have one. They may just be lumping in with Civics.

Screw that...its a little impractical.
Why don't you mount the laptop in a tray underneath the passenger seat and have a remote monitor in the center console where the radio/cubby hole are presently. Touch monitor would be sweet.

I've seen an amp mounted under the passenger seat. It was pretty large as far as amps go. Space didn't seem to be an issue. Irregardless of where you put it...keep the damn thing out of the way and use a remote display.

I will not be using it while driving. I will be making several stops during the day and need to use it to send and receive information in the car. My usual position is to have it balanced against the steering wheel. But it would sure be more comfortable if I had a mount.

I won't be taking the laptop out of the car throughout the day. I just need to access it repeatedly (and it wouldn't hurt to have GPS mapping available while driving).

However, to be honest, a CRX is a lot more spacious than a crown vic with a partition in it.
Not to mention all the other stuff I have seen in a patrol car (well from what I could make out with the mesh in front of my face).

Radio, shotgun, etc. The Fort Worth cops really pack it in there.

id like to help you with this fab work lemmie know what i can do to help.
I like the idea of two of the mounts connecting to the passenger seat bolts. Seem pretty solid. The third mount would need to access another bolt somewhere beyond the shifter. I will take a lok at my rex.

Goals off the top of my head:

1) Does not block AC controls too much.
2) Does not block shifter at all.
3) Does not block AC vents
4) Quick disconnect for the laptop.
5) Locking ball joint to adjust laptop angle.
6) Use existing bolts to attach, no drilling.
7) Carbon fiber decal wrap.

Seriously, I don't think it would be worth it if someone has already done it. Seems like it may be expensive. If you did create it, you could probably sell a few to make it worth your while.

If I find a good one, or you can make one, I can see having a USB connection to the ECU among other things. It would be a carputer that quick-disconnects when not in use.
