New exhaust in the spring, suggestions?

The old stock exhaust is starting to show it's age, so I'm hoping to replace it with an aftermarket piece in the spring. I was sure there was a previous discussion on the best exhaust systems for CRXs, but I couldn't find it doing a search.

The shop I deal with is trying to coax me into the Skunk 2 exhaust, but I'm not sure how loud it would be or if theres something better out there. I've been doing some research, I'm just not sure what the best fit for the car is going to be.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I've heard that the skunk2 exhaust is kinda raspy sounding.
Mind you I havent heard this exhaust with my own ears, but these friends that have told me are reputable.
My opinion-thermal.
I will be picking up a thermal exhaust in a few weeks here from a semi-local.
I can give ya feedback after I install mine.
Some aftermarket exhaust companies put together decent looking exhaust systems, but the sound is too "loud/raspy" for my liking.
Just my .02,but you dont wanna go down the street sounding like a pissed off bumble bee do you?

This is how my car currently sounds. It was cool at first nearly 4 years ago but now it is really annoying. I have even tried using the supplied silencer but unfortunately it does not help much. So now I am looking for alternatives. First I am going to have a resonator installed to see if that helps, if not the entire rear section is getting cut off and placed on Ebay. Haven't decided what I am going to replace it with but I definately want to go sleeper, so it is definately going to be flat black with stock looking dual tips.
Then may I recommend the thermal?
Thats why I like it(from what I have been told)
I've heard Thermals that both sound awesome, and some sound raspy. If i'm not mistaken, they have a street and race version... or maybe it is just the silencing cone installed they sell... not sure.

My personal preference for an all motor CRX is one resonator at least 16-20" long behind the shifter, and then either one more resonator and a resonated tip for more noise, or a canister muffler and a resonated tip for more of a quiet ride.

I know thats not 'brand name' or anything, but if you have someone near you that can weld stainless decent, buy an unwelded exhaust from www.kteller.com, add the stainless resonater he has and canister muffler, and assemble it yourself. It can be done for a lot less $$, it is stainless and wil last as long, and as long as whoever welds it is good and backpurges it, it'll be every bit as good of a system as any aftermarket one you buy ;)
I would recommend the DC Sports but I think they're out of production :(
Cheapie fart can... . with a stock cat and no resonator blowing ouw the b18 fumes.... 2 inch pipe nicest i have ever heard.... . .authoritive not ricey....
everyone has there own prefs though....

My buddy used to own a shop with a pipe bender and we would put a new muffler on every friday night.... just for fun..... cherry bomb is cheap and i currently have one on my DD just to be a ricer ( haha ) but i have tried alot.... the camaro single inlet and dual outlet in turbo muffler version sounds nice with 2 tips out the rear.......... kinda ricey though for a 4 cyl...

nice tight sound though....

ironically it seems that the crx is still loud with a stock muffler on it just from removing the cat... . . . .. . . . must be all of the POWA !!!
i had an exhaust shop in town make me a new catback out of aluminized steel. its been almost a year now, no rust at all. Removed the resonator, and put a cheap turbo muffler on. It sounds ok, a little raspy at high rpm though. Im going to get the muffler replaced with somthing different to give it more of a growl. oh yeah it cost me $167 installed

Ive done this on several of my CRXs, aluminized steel is some of the best stuff to go with for the money, IMO a borla 2 1/4 offset mated to a decent muffler shop system is hard to beat for the money, pretty quiet off of idle until mid-range, then the sound gets deeper and richer at higher rpm.
Thanks for everyone's input! I know a guy who owns a muffler shop, so maybe I'll go see what he can do for me. I don't need "brand name", just for it too look good, look good, and not rust apart in 6 months.
I really dont wanna be the half empty water glass attitude guy,but aluminized steel will not "look good" for as long as SS will.I dont know if B.C. uses salt on their roads like michigan does, but AS definatly does not last as long as SS.
I know,I know SS is too expensive right?
Not always.
After owning both "types" of exhausts I will never go back to AS.
...just my .02
To just add one point to ollies post, cause he is right.... 'aluminized' will still rust at the welds, and anywhere they took the finish off of it for welding. It is still mild steel... it just has a coating on it sorta like galvanized, but weldable.

A full stainless exhaust is not much more than a full mild steel exhaust in the long run... You just have to have the right person weld it together (i.e. that means that 98% of muffler shops out there are not on your list of people to weld it) 8)
I have a cherry bomb muffler and a CAI on my Si. I got the cherry bomb because i was broke and my previous muffler had an unfortunate encounter with a ditch...

But i actually really like the sound. not too loud while driving nicely, but when you get on it, it really screams. in a good way 8)
i had the Thermal on mine when i was running the ZC. perfect sound for me..deep, resonant..not raspy at all. as for quality, they built it to last.

i was using the random tech cat and dcsports headers as well.
mine is holding up good. they painted all the welds on it. i know its not as good as ss but its great for me. I might coat it in high temp por-15 to extend the life
I would have to give my nomination for a Thermal exhaust as well.

I have had the Thermal "stealth" system on my car since I did the ZC swap, and I absolutely love it!

Im not sure if Thermal actually calls it the "stealth" system or not, but the place where I got it from did.. basically I think its more of their street version, (more packing) then a full race exhaust.

regardless, the fitment is perfect, the tip is large, but not coffee can sized.. and it has a really awesome tone to it.. when your just doing your daily driving routine.. it sounds just a little deeper then the stock exhaust did.. but when you get on it, it has a sweet deep tone to it.

Now that I have had it on my car for a few years, it has gotten a bit louder then when it was new... but its nothing ridiculous.

and when its time to detail the ride.. just a bit of windex, and maybe some very light steel wool to get of the tough crud, and she shines like new!!

A friend had the Thermal system on his accord, sounded really nice

I have a 2" pipe, hi flo cat, cherry bomb resonator, and an autozone turbo2 in the stock location. I like the sound of it, and its not too loud either. My pipes are AS so I do have to worry about it rusting out, but it should last a while since I don't drive her in the snow, at least they can only rust from the inside out
