There is a way to retrieve obd2 ecu trouble codes by a series of turning the ignition switch on and off. I did it once before on a 99 teg but lost the instructions. I need to retrieve a code on my gf's 98 Accord v6. Does anyone know the sequence?

EDIT: can one of you moderator dudes move this to the lounge please? I clicked into the wrong forum by mistake and submitted this before I realized it.

Nah, I was actually able to make the cel blink codes by a series of turning the ignition on and off. Where did I put those instructions? Man, I swear I misplace everything.

Heu,
I dont ever remember a OBD-2 system allowing code retrevial by key cycles?
I know that all my cars at work require my scanner to retrieve codes.
If so I would love to see the article.

My 02 WRX could be done by sticking the key in and cycling it on and off QUICKLY several times, then stoppig in the ON position. I dont remember the magic number, but I think it was either 3 or 5 times. You have to go all the way from OFF to ON, ACC wont work.

Good luck

EDIT: If you can get it to work, AutoZone checks codes for free!

big L, aka ollie- I was able to retrieve codes from a an obd2 teg with a cycling sequence of the key. I just cannot for the life of me remember how or where I got those instructions, but there is a way to do it.

til I find it the following like is all I've got. I'm just a little withdrawn from this method cuz there's a chance I could fry the ecu. Yes, I know but I hate autozone. My mom knows more about cars than some of those guys.
