This was started on honda-tech, for member (tbone) he has helped me out in the past, and has always stepped up to the plate to help others, rather it be dynoing parts, or posting feedback and such. I personally just found out about this, and donated money. If this is in the wrong please delete it, not sure if Tom was a member on here but I do know he owned a crx so he might of been. Anyways onto the story

Some of you may know that Tom Cote (Tbone) was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident back on September 15. He was hit from the side and totaled his truck. The truck went air born a bit and when it came down the suspension failed and Tom took a huge shock to the back. He had major injuries to his back (but was not paralyzed). On October 26 he had his first back surgery to repair some ruptured discs. He has been in a lot of pain during the whole ordeal.
This past Wednesday he went back into the hospital for an emergency back operation. The surgeon had to clean out an area where a staff infection started and to repair another ruptured disc. He's been running a fever since last week and was readmitted to the hospital this past Saturday and is unsure how long he will be there.

Tom has been out of work since the accident and is only getting limited disability pay. He currently has health insurance through his work but is uncertain if he can retain his job and insurance. Even with health insurance his deductibles are large. The current high strength antibiotics he is on for the staff infection run multiple thousands of dollars a day.

He still has a car, rent, electric, gas and credit card, etc. payments, like most of us, which adds more stress to an already extremely stressful situation. These are all taking their toll on him and his girl friend.

Tom has added much to this board over the past years. Many people on here have learned about the quality and performance of many different parts from many different manufacturers. He did all the testing on his own and we have gained from it. He has also provided tons of advice through IMs and posts.

Now is the time that we can say thank you to him and good luck with his physical recovery. H-T is the largest Honda forum on the internet and by its shear member size should be able to help him out in his time of need.

So I've set up a paypal account for donations to the Tom Cote Medical Fund. I have talked to George Knighton about this, and this thread will be made into a sticky for the All Motor and GDD forums.

Everybody please give to this important cause to help one of our own. This is the true meaning of Christmas and the members of H-T can shine a little light on Tom's situation.

Please send what you can, via paypal, to [email protected] .

I will keep the board up to date with running totals. Please give and thanks in advance.

If you want to send funds directly to Tom here's his address. But please send an email still to [email protected] with your amount so that I can keep a running total. Thanks.

that is seriously sad news. I hope he makes it through, really terrible because the back injuries stay with you forever.

I start a new job tomorrow, we'll see how much I make from it...

I'm not saying other people don't have issues, but that did seem a tad selfish on your part, at least to me it did. I mean this guy can't even walk and is stuck in a bed. I understand if the guy has not helped you out, but I mean the guy is still in the hospital and from the sounds of it, they can't get his temperature back down.

Step back a bit, bro.
Not sure who that was directed to, it just seemed selfish all together. The guy is in the hospital and can't get out of bed. He never asked for this, actually smsp made a thread on honda-tech about it and I asked him if it would help if I posted on a few other sites. I'm sure I'm in the same category as others out there, I can't give a huge donation, but I can reach out and offer any help that I can provide. Sorry if I took it the wrong way Neil.

I'm not here to argue, I know people have money issues, I know its tough, this is not a hand out type deal, people are doing this for him because when others needed help, he was there. I'm sure if a well known member on here was hurt, I'm sure you guys would not question or make comments like that.

Back on topic, I don't want to this to turn into a bickering thread.

For anyone interested, here is a good write up he did a while back.

Well you did sorta get defensive about it Bob... Just remember that your passion for helping this one person may not be shared by others who do not know him very well.

Just remember that to others, he is just another person who is in trouble... there are a LOT of people in this world who are in trouble like that. It is truly unfortunate... i'd love to be able to help out each and every one of them, but i'm no trillionaire...

I wish TBone the very best, and hope that he pulls through... i'll be donating to his fund as well, as i have seen a lot of his work in the past, and know his generosity towards others.

But Bob, don't get defensive if someone comes in here and says something like Neil said... because quite frankly, what he said is valid, and i don't view it as selfish at all... he's got problems to, and hopefully he can find his way through them as well.

You're right John, I just took it the wrong way. I know a lot of people have troubles like this, and I know to some he is just a normal guy because some people don't know him.

But I do know if you were in the same situration John, and someone came in and said that about you, just being an average person I'm sure some people would get defense, I don't know what my point is though, just thought the comment was out of line, and yeah I did get defense cause of it.

But like I said it was all a misunderstanding, that is all. I told Neil I was sorry for the misunderstanding, no harm done.

No harm done. I too apologize if I came off the wrong way. Even in my situation, I still try to shed light on everything I experience. I try to find the humor in everything I do, good or bad. That is all.

As forementioned, I wish I could help, but I can't.

I won't post on this thread anymore.

Feel free to post, you made yourself clear, everything is all good, but for some reason John wants to hold my hand now, the only odd thing I see

Emptied what was left in my paypal account and sent it, though just a few bucks. I've never really hung out at HT but if so many people there are willing to do something about this, Tom must be a good guy. Best wishes to him.

Can you imagine John with a Wii controller, playing a racing game, he would shift the controller through the wall and then make an outlandish :p excuse about my wall not being strong enough....... then he would walk to my fringe and steel and ice cream sandwich.
