Hey everyone, hows it going?

well its tax season, and Uncle Sam should be kicking down here pretty soon. I have finally won my battle with my wife, and she now understands that since I am paying for her 01 rodeo that she rides around in.. then its about damn time that I get to put some money into MY car!!!
My suspension is shot, I need tires.. and I need to get some major brake work done.
I think I have a pretty good grip on what it is Im going to be doing.. however I am stuck on a few things.
Im looking to purchase new tires for my hatch. I have a brand new set of 17's still in the boxes in my closet... been there for 3 years! im going to finally get some rubber and put them on my car (yeah I know the argument... they are still going on) So my question is.. youre looking for some 205/40/17's you have $350-$400 tops to spend including mounting and balancing... what tires do you buy?

So far.. Ive found a set of Nitto "neo gens" that I can get mounted and balanced for just about $360

are Neo Gens worth a poo?

I need a street tire that will hold up, but still be "sticky" enough for spirited driving.. My current tires are such a hard compund.. they have held up for many many miles.. but they suck for spirited driving.. im looking for a happy medium.. i will sacrifice tire life span.. over performance.
Also.. I have settled on "Tokico Illumina's" for the shocks im getting.. adjustible, and within my budget.. Im having trouble however with choosing springs.
one the one hand, I could get the illuminas, and some matched drop spings.. which I think should give me a decent ride.. but then I have no control over ride height.. I dont want to be "slammed" on the ground..
So that leaves me with adjustible coil-overs.. but which ones? I have been eyeing the skunk2 coil-overs.. anyone else have suggestions?

thanks in advance for the advice/ help

the nittos will be fine..its a decent enough tire. althogh I woudl sell the 17s get some nice looking and light 15s and then I would be able to buy a better tire without sacraficing anything. But hey thats me

also..kyb adjustables would be great..I have used the konis and kybs and for a budget weekend warrior like yourself..they are a great bang for the buck...and then get the skunks or ground controls...and life will be grand.

I'll second the Falkens. I got to use my friend's wheels for a while with Azenis RT-215s, they were amazing. Thankfully, I wasn't driving in the rain. My stepdad has Ziex on his '00 Si Coupe, they are great for all-seasons.

Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s are a pretty good "performance" tire for the money (Tirerack.com has them for $61 each)

Hankook Ventus H405 HRII is what Ive been using lately. Good tread life (H rated), still grippy though. Good for a daily driver that gets "thrashed every once in a while.

Nankangs are cheap if you just need some rubber, but I dont know how good they are performance-wise.

Wanlis are SUPER GHETTO FABULOUSLLY CHEAP if you're really ballin' on a budget.... ($30-$40 EACH... you can get a set for $206 SHIPPED on ebay). I actually had a set once, they were free with some wheels I bought. They actually weren't that bad. If I was broke and needed some tires, I'd get them again.

Might want to look into some of the other Falkens, like the Ziex's, a friend of mine couldn't kill them, but still got a decent amount of traction
I'm running the Falken Ziex 512's on my DD and love them. I think I paid like $49 a tire at Sears.

Yeah, I know.. I would like to sell them... I paid $1000 for a 91 crx si, and the guy gave me the rims with it.. they were new in the boxes, he just got them.. but then he had to come up with some cash quick, so for a grand I got a car and some rims... I sold the car for $600.. it was wrecked.. and I kept the wheels..

Id like to sell them, but everyone around here wants them for next to nothing...

oh well..

thats what i got.. thats what im gonna roll... lol

thanks for all the replies!
