Having a... debate... with a friend of mine. Which do you guys do, park your car in gear or not? I was always taught not to, to use the parking brake except on a very steep hill. I always reasoned that the brake is there for a reason, and if someone does hit the car, it will move easier and only wear the brakes, not the unlubricating tranny/motor.

Discuss.

i could definately see why some people would rather use the parking brake instead of gears........but my parking brake needs to be adjusted so i pretty much have to leave it in gear for now haha......and before people hound me for not adjusting it (because i know its simple) i ran out of room with the nut right by the hand brake so im waiting untill next ime i have the wheels off to change it.

Something ive been wondering myself.

I always leave it in gear, but i never park it on a hill or out on the street. When i do get stuck on a hill, i sometimes put it on if i remember but still leave it in gear. Just my vote.

I took my e brake out to save weight so, yeah I leave it in gear.
WTF?

How much weight does the Mugen kit save?
Quite a bit actually. It is way lighter than the WW kit, and it doesn't use bumper supports. I would dare to say it probally saves about 20-30lbs over stock(mostly from lack of supports), and probally 50lbs less than a WW kit with bumper supports. Besides that I just got done cutting my side impact beams out aswell. :D

sweet, im still in teh body kit weight reduction lead. no side skirts, just the stock rear bumper skin, no front bumper support, fender, hood, t bar, or rad support.

if i get crashed into, my car will be in sad shape...

My car is always in gear except when it is actually being shifted from one gear to the next. I dunno why, its just the way i do it. Same as I don't coast to stop signs/lights in neutral. Or maybe I just grew up driving cars from the 50s and 60s whose parking brakes just didn't function so well...

But ya, i leave it in gear and put the parking brake on in my car. Although if I'm parking in the city where there is a risk of towing, i usually leave it in the neutral zone.

Side impact beams are about 30lbs a piece, that and 89-91 doors are real heavy compared to the 88's sans impact beams I'm putting on. Oh and the roof is comming off next, and a HF roof is going in. The JDM headlights are lighter than USDM too, your 1 peice frontend might have me though, but I will never use one of those, I don't care how light they are, it isn't really much of a street car anymore when you make that step. Thread jack over!
