Ok everyone, well thanks for all the help, last night I bought the CRX for $1100. Here are some pictures. The body is a little rough, the engine leaks oil but it runs like hell and is a blast to drive. I have my eyes on a 90 CRX across town that was wrecked, so I'm going to see what condition its in, I'm sure I can get some parts off it.

I thought I got a pretty good deal. If it was you car what would be the first thing you would do? Keep in mind, I'm planning on driving this while I fix it up. The engine swap will be probably this summer. What should I do to prepare the car for the engine swap? The exhaust was installed with the swap in mind. I for one am thinking of starting on the interior, or maybe trying to find some body panels, start the body work process.

For me the worst place for rust was at the bottom of my rear inner fenders. If your car doesn't have inner fender covers then water will pool in a small little pocket there. On my car is rusted a hole all the way through and then spread under the side skirt.

Here is a picture:
Got it, thanks. I'll be taking a closer look after christmas.

you have the hf model it looks like. You already have the mpfi so motor swaps will be a bit easier, though the front knuckles will need to be changed out.

looks like you got a good deal.
I was told it was the DX model? How for sure can I tell the difference. Will the VIN tell me?

you can see on the back the remains of the HF badge. Plus you have a mpfi engine, 5k rpm limit, no rear window wiper or squirter, and no passenger mirror.

You sir have an HF model. Congrats 8)
Ok, another silly question, is this a good thing of a bad thing? You say it will be easier for an engine swap, thats good!!! :D :D

What other benefits if any am I looking at? Thanks for the insight! I guess to go along with the pros I should ask the cons of owning an HF. :?

Silly me, I thought the passenger mirror was just knocked off and I never thought about looking for the rear wiper.

You are currently running 62HP. The HF is a tuned down Si. It uses the same fuel injection system (one injector per cylinder, as opposed to the DX which uses two in the throttle body). The intake is considerably smaller than the SI and has half the valves of the Si engine (8 vs 16). You do have an 88 or an 89 though, so it is the lightest of the 88-91 CRX. 1988 is the lightest.

I would do wheels, tires and suspension. There isn't too much good rubber made in 13s.

Oh yeah and to add, it has a partial HF sticker on the back. If you still doubt, look at the insulation under the carpet on the passenger floor, there is a white circle with "HF" stamped in the middle on the inside of the wheel well, next to the ECU cover.

given the choice hf or dx i would take the hf due to the lighter weight. I prefer the si though, a crx with an open sunroof just looks so sexy to me.
A sunroof would be pretty darn nice. Is there any way of putting a sunroof from an SI to what I have?

I think it is an 88. Didn't the pillar mounted seatbelts only come on USDM models in 88?
The 89 hf also got the pillar ones, but the dx and Si for 89 got the door belts.
