Hey guys, waz up ? I just finished watching pinks. This week there was an eg civic hatch facing off against a mazda rx-7. Once again a honda lost to a rwd car. It goes without saying that rwd cars have a signifigant traction advantage when it comes to drag racing. I wonder if and when there will ever be a fwd vs. fwd episode. Has anyone out there heard any rumours?,have any comments ? I would love to see a crx against a neon or a focus...maybe one day...

That was full race's car.. a stock turbo d engine against a 13b.. the rx had to have way more power..

I don't think a stock d series is capable of holding that much boost
You're right... it's not capable of such a feat... Even with the best tune, i'd like to see someone break 250whp with a stock turbo-D...

I havent seen the newest pinks with the eg vs. an RX7, but this one was just plain sad, and FWD vs RWD had nothing to do with it IMO:

The guy has a real nice setup in his civic, but to me it was obvious he couldnt drive...It might have helped too if he wouldve put his slicks at the beginning

In the honda performance book that I just read it said that a stock block needs to be posted or guarded if you go over 15 psi.
One thing that was pointed out to me is a honda block or any other engine block can take a lot more then what is recommended just for a few runs. Most of us are thinking of long term durability and not doing whatever for a few runs. I know for a fact if you read the honda book or whatever book that it will also say revving a D-series past 9k it will break but I know personally and others have reved past that more then once and never had a problem.

Doesn't mean the stuff won't break in a couple of days but you can get a few runs out before it does.

I have a stock D16A6 in my garage with a hole in the block so big you could put your arm through it. The previous owner didn't respect the redline. He said he was doing 100 in 3rd gear. Not sure what RPM that would be. Someone will calculate it out. But who knows? Maybe he revved it like that ALL the time, not just that once.

I've just red a post from Geoff (full-race) on another site.He says the block itself was stock. The internals were not(pistons,rods,etc.).Also that car was in no way"pieced together".The list of sponsors on that car is as long as my arm.

I know you can rev an a6 (stock) real high, my friend used to rev his passed 8k ..... but it definitely doesn't make any power up there. And that book doesn't say anything about rev limits on a stock block, it talks about building them so they pretty much factor in that you are going to have good parts on it anyways. There are 400 horsepower a6's, but not much is stock.

I think the concept of pink slip racing in a real event is cool, it's really putting your money where your mouth is. I don't think it should matter if a car is fwd or rwd, obviously there are advantages but if you think you can beat the other car then hey more power to you, no matter what you own. Just like when you bracket race, the 16 year old bastard with moms automatic taurus wagon always beats everyone, but he did his time better than anyone else there so more power to him. It would be nice to actually see some good matchups in the fwd catagory though. Maybe a hatch vs a rex.

yeah, it's more important to get as much traction as possible. i don't know how the guys had their suspension set up and boost dialed in. if you launch with all of that boost you'll spin the tires until they connect. there was a guy locally when i was in college who ran a 1st gen with an old acura V6 turboed. he said he ran 26psi in it several times and said the block was stock (i don't know how much i believe this guy). he said he was making around 600hp. the car was wicked fast...when the tires connected. it would snake half way down and then once connected would shoot off like a rocket. he never listened to me when i kept telling him to dial the boost back and have a controller. also told him to set up the suspension better. he just said he would feather the throttle. he was always looking for more power.

Pieced together for the full race guys is not the same as pieced together by you and me. They have sponsers and parts laying around. They put a car together and raced it.

There are a lot of people on HT that can testify that stock blocks can take a ton of intermittent extremely high psi ..... thanks to ss autochromes awesome manifold' welds. "hey boost creep, there you are"

I only got to see the very end...somebody definately needs to work on their negotiating skills. They had negotiating power due to being down two races and still couldn't be competitive.

I'm pissed that my Dish DVR didn't record it like it was suppose to. For some reason either Dish or Speed channel had the episode info wrong and so my DVR thought it was a repeat episode and skipped it.

I would love to see a fwd vs fwd race. In the first import vs domestic the Civic got absolutely killed by the Firebird.

Maybe we could have some kind of board rivalry with honda-tech or something. Our best vs their best...now that would be fun.
