I have been trying to find the the source of rattling somewhere in my front end/suspension for quite some time. It is most prevalent on sketchy pavement. On smooth pavement it is fine. I just installed new struts all around. No help there. New upper A frames few years back. Could the steering rack be the source? Visually the grommets look OK, but with 302 k miles on the car they need to be replaced anyway.
Your input greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Marc.

Best bet is to jack up a wheel and rock it around and see what is loose.

Most likely one of these:
lower ball joints
sway bar end links or bushings
inner or outer tie rods
the front subframe traction bar bushings
wheel bearings

If you replaced the upper A-arm you should have upper ball joints that are still fresh.

Check if your front motor mount bolt is loose. It might not be it, but moral of the story, it can be a lot of things.

the easiest things to check are loose things like the motor mount, any bolts, the rack end bushing, etc.
