Replacing lower spark plug tube seals (part name?)

1223 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  mo3iusone
I have oil on the threads of one of my spark plugs. I've replaced the valve cover gasket and the tube seals. That did not help.
Now I think it must be the tube seals that are under the rocker arm assembly.
Has anyone replace these?
Do I have to remove the camshaft and the rocker arm assembly?
Or can I just loosen the bolts and lift it slightly?
Thanks!

buuump, I'm having similiar issue, I replaced the upper seals, now I need to replace the lower seals, is there a write up for this? or am I gonna have to figure it out and do a write up for it? 8) lol
im gonna have to assume that yes you need to remove the rocker arms i was looking at thw workshop manual , and im pissed cause it has an expoded view on the doch head but not for the SOCH :x
The cam can stay in place but the rocker assembly needs to be removed. I did learn that if the distributor drive tab is vertical the timing belt tension can tip the cam shaft but if you make sure that tab is horazontal it prevents this, assuming of course that the distributor is installed.

The key to success with any gasket or seal replacement is to clean up the surfaces well before installing the new seals. The O-ring seals fit into groves on the bottom of the rocker assembly. You will want to clean these groves out, Q-tips and solvent work well for the task.

Be sure to use the proper torque and sequence when reinstalling the rocker assembly.

Sounds like your looking at an EDM manual. Do a little more searching to find a USDM manual you can down load. One site you can find some at is http://www.spoonertuner.com/manuals
