So... I feel really dumb but I was checking out the throttle body and while I was working on it, the tip from the finger of my rubber glove was sucked off and into the intake on the upper left (if you're looking straight into the TB)

I heard a sort of obstructed "rubber balloon" sound before I turned off the engine. I took off the TB and checked for the offending bit, but it seems it's somewhere further down the line. The line appears to lead off towards the EACV and/or the fuel pressure regulator. Which area should I check first and what kind of damage or parts should I expect to repair and replace along the way? So far, I've got the TB gasket...

I guess this is what teachers refer to as the "teachable moment"?

not to sound too leanient but My guess is that it will make its way into the combustion chamber and get burtnt to bits..... and is prob nothing to worry about...

you could pull the intake and look for it.... but my guess is that it has already mnade its way out your exhaust piupe in the form of a gas. .

On my throttle body (d16a6 engine) there's a port just inside the TB that goes to the EACV and some other line (not the fuel pressure regulator as I thought before). The piece didn't get into the manifold or burn up since I could still hear the the piece obstructing air flow towards the EACV. The rpms dipped but the engine didn't die. I figure the glove bit is slightly clogging the hose to the sensor. I tried using a vaccuum cleaner to suck it out, but that didn't work.

So anyway, I've checked two repair manuals and couldn't find anything related specifically to removing the EACV from the intake manifold. Anything I should know about, or any replacement parts I should have on hand before attempting dis-assembly? I'm thinking like gaskets, o-rings, etc.

Also, any tips on removing the hoses to the TB, or old hoses in general? Those things are on pretty snug and I'd like to try to avoid damaging them.

You dont actually HAVE to remove the coolant hoses to the TB.
If the glove has lodged itself in the EACV ports, its not that bad removing the EACV.
I do believe that two 8.8m bolts hold that thing on.Carefully loosen those bolts and remove the EACV and look for the offending glove part in the two ports.
Also if the TB is moved out of the way,a flashlight and 90 degree pick do wonders.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Ollie: I have the TB out of the way, but shining a light revealed nothing but unobstructed passages. Tomorrow when it's warmer and drier, I'll take off the EACV and hope I can find the obstruction in the ports as you suggest.

Whee!

I hope you learned not to use your rubbers around the TB :p

If you do need to remove some of the coolant lines from the intake, I just use a set of vise grips on the clamps, and another plier on the hose. With enough twisting and rocking, it will come off, usually in one piece.

I generally move the clamp down the hose a bit, grip the area where the clamp was with a pair of pliers and twist a bit. That generally breaks the rubber loose and allows the hose to slip off alot easier.

Good tips on hose removal guys -- thanks!

In other news, VICTORY IS MINE

Loosened the EACV and sure enough, there was my fingerling clogging the intake port:

And, the nasty little Latex Invader, finally vanquished:

Thanks everyone for participating in Lang's Moron Garage. Tune in next week when Lang accidentally inflates his tires with water.
