I was talking with one of the only body guys i trust and the only one that will even talk about rust repair, he gave me a price of about 6 grand. Its alot but i think worth it. It will be for everything, Rust repair, Full paint and expert care. He says that it will be cheapier if i can find a quater panel to take out of. That should be easy :rolleyes1:

I know its an hard and long job, thats why im leaving it to an expert, but was wonder what kind of hidden stuff will i find once getting in to this project? I know people have done it so its not an unknow area for everyone and there expert advise is needed because im trying to find out everything that could go wrong before it happens to try to plan some extra things into the bugget plan.

Im hoping all of this to be done by next winter. This will give me the summer to work off and finish paying for her, and start to save up for the work to be done.

Wonder what all you think. I know its my car and i should do what i want with her, so i guess im asking for support in all this cause i know i wouldnt get it in any other forum im on. Im like Tom (dOwnest), in that i would rather fix up are cars then send it to the scapper. I also guess i should ask if anyone know of any leads of the Holy Grail of Crx parts, the rear quater panels?

Thanks everyone for the help
Tom

6k for that? i was thinking there must be more. One thing to consider in rust repair. I have yet to find a body shop that will warranty rust repairs. I have 2 bubbles on my 88si. They are very small, and the estimate was for $350 for the fix. If it bubbles up again in a few months then it was a waste. You could have a panel cut out and a new one welded in cheaper than that.

You could probably find a rust free crx for that too. One thing to consider.

For 6 grand that paint job better come with some KY cause you are getting raped.

For about 3500$ I could get a professional, all metal, paint job on my hatch, and for around 1500$ I could do one myself that would look just as good if proper time was put into it. Look at your alternatives...

At least get a 2nd estimate. That's way too much money.

If rust repair is done properly (cut it all out and weld in new metal) then there should be no reason for it to return. But if it's just filled with fiberglass or bondo then of course it's going to come back.
It's more then just 'cut and weld'. You need to prep the metal you are welding too. No rust can be left behind at all, and everything needs to be galvanised and water proof primered, then when the paint is cured, undercoated to hell. Even then, it will come back. If it's stored in a controlled environment and it never sees snow/rain, it will never come back in full force. Once rust starts, it don't stop...

the 6 grand was one because i told him to plan for worst case, this way i'll have more money left over. 2nd, its high because he was talking about fabbing up new pieces from scrach. that time right there and time is money in this game. In the end, it will most likely cost less.

6 grand, and new peices from scratch? Man, that would be raping. For 6 grand, I better see brand new honda stamped panels (which are still available) being welded to the car!

Well I just simplified it compared to how I've seen it done (bondo). I'm certainly no expert either, body work for me consists of dropping off my keys with a check.
Come on now, you gotta be able to get your hands dirty! I'm planning on painting my own and I've been doing alot of research, now I'm starting to collect parts, compressor shopping next week :) .

OP: are you serious?

For 6 grand, you can get a HELL of a clean CRX. Screw some resto CRX, go buy a minty mint one, thats original.
Or buy a couple CRXs, **** you can get clean HF and DX's in the south for around $1k a piece, rust free.
