Not the brightest bulb in the box is he? I don't think it would do much for protecting his ears either, solid materials like metal transmit sound fairly well.
It is a notable reminder to always wear hearing protection though. I have lost an estimated 40 decibels of sensitivity in my left ear from firing my rifle without any protection.

I think you've just opened a huge can of worms.
Americans don't 'hunt each other,' and that's an asinine assumption. Any well-meaning human is generally compassionate enough to avoid murder. Guns don't cause violence, you can look at any prison and see that weapons will be found or made from virtually anything. Unstable minds are the root cause of gun problems.
