my car basically dies out while warming up if i dont keep my foot on the gas. even after warming up, it idles really rough. after 10-15 minutes of driving, my idle stays steady around 900rpm for 2-3 minutes then keeps dipping down to 600, back to 900, and down to 300, up to 900, then falls on its face.

my questions are:
1. does this sound like a clogged iacv?
2. (if yes) what are my options, other than cleaning it or getting a new one?

I had a similar problem on my old hf. I took off my egr valve and scraped the diode and it cleared up for a while. Im not telling you it will work but it is worth a try.

The HF is the only CRX with an EGR, so if he has an Si or DX that's not the problem.

Try cleaning out the IACV and the FITV (or whatever the OBD0 equivalent is). There are a lot of causes for surging idle, but sounds like you have a cold idle/startup problem as well. Have you tried adjusting the idle screw once it's warmed up?
