maybe a bad temp sensor, they have been known to go out, heres what i think is hapening:
the resistor in the sensor got fried by a freek electrical surge, when your at highway speeds, your alternator is making more power and sending more power to the sensor. because of this, the sensor gives a faulty reading. when you press the clutch, the revs drop and so does the power, therefor, your guage goes down. as for the fans, they rarely go on even when they are working right, in the year i have owned a rex, i've seen it twice.
